My screen flickers in Photoshop on my 2013 Macbook Air.

Add me to the list as well. I'm running PS CC on an i7/8gb/512. I'm getting the flicker off and on when using any brush tool.

I've talked to Apple Support three seperate times now. After trying to clear the NVRAM/PRAM and booting in safe mode, the third agent told me I should take it into the Apple store as they think it's a hardware issue.

At this point I don't even feel at ease getting a new unit as people are still seeing issues when they swap it out. Hoping this issue and another issue I'm experiencing (screen goes black and logs me out randomly) gets taken care of with a firmware update.

Niklos, thanks to you, I discovered that mY MBA 2013 i7 8Go 128 also gets the flickering...

At first I thought that I wasn't concerned but yes...

I hope this is only software. I'm still in the 14 days period but I hope we can trust Apple for finding a solution so I think I will keep it.

Notice that you can work on Photoshop without Flickering on an external screen as I do...

Let's cross fingers...

Don't you think we have clues to think it's only software ?

1) According to one of the first messages of this post, upgrading to Mavericks solved it

2) If it flickers and you activate a window that comes in the foreground, it stops

3) Photoshop flickers only AFTER the MBA went to sleep once.

I'm a graphic designer, so I really need Photoshop…

But would a technician or a developper confirm that it should only be software ? 😍

Or is it far more complicated ? 😕

The problem occurs on both CS6 and CC.

So what are you all gonna do; take it to apple or hold out for a patch? I'm divided.... I've booked in to see the apple robots on thursday just in case.

It seems to flicker on certain combination of brush size and zoom factor and only just after moving the pointer.

I managed to freeze my Mac doing this for a few minutes... had to reboot it.

I'd like to add that I sometimes get small artefacts on my external screen and remaining images… But it goes really quickly and doesn't stay on the screen.

I also have a Macbook Air 2012 with the same configuration and I had never met these problems…

I really hope this is not hardware and that a patch is coming soon.

ℹI called Apple today and I got 15 extra days to return the Macbook Air back for a refund.

If you explain there is a problem they will be comprehensive about that…

If you live in Europe there are also good warranties for consumers : if you buy a defected computer, you can get a refund up to 2 years after you bought it. It's even written in Apple conditions.

Please Apple, let us know asap.

alitaliano - how did you get the 15 extra days to return the Macbook Air for a refund? I'm getting nervous as my 30 days are coming to a close soon, so I called to try and get the same deal. They not only didn't offer anything like that, but refused to accept it's an Apple problem. Got escalated to a more senior person, who said there was nothing about this on their issues queue, no firmware releases scheduled that they knew about, and insisted I either talk to Adobe or go in to an Apple store.

Very disappointing experience, to say the least.

to all of you, get the mba back to them, take the money an wait for strong updates not so soon (10.8.5 or mavericks).

Hi, I called Apple a second time and they were nothing but comprehensive about the problem and told me to refer to Adobe.

That's what I did and the guy I talked with was very interrested about trying to find a solution…

I was asked to boot in Safe Mode :

I tried then to reproduce the flickering problem but I couldn't (Wifi was off during the procedure, I don't know if it could have something to do with).

⚠ Could you try booting in safe mode to see if it resolves the problem ?

The guy at Adobe tells the flickering problem could involve a third-party thing that would play with the screen resolution or could have something to do with fonts… He agreed that if a problem involves only an Adobe product, it could be Adobe's fault…

Well, fine, i just answered you but it has been removed or delete by the webmaster or i don't know who.

I was saying that i tried this safe mode boot, it doesn't work in the end, flickers still happen. And this is no real good solution to tell a guy that just bought a 1500€ product.

I also have to add that those flickering stuffs happen not only on Ps, but also while in safari, or what to say about the sleeping process taking place whenever it wants, or the fact that if you leave your brand new mbair to sleep for more than 10mins, you simply just can't turn it back on, you have to plug it, even at 100% of charge. And when you succeed in turning it on again, the system says that there have been some damaging for the harddrive unknown end of session, maybe it's still adobe'fault??

And what to say about the 15 sec of freeze when you use the trash?

And the roller coaster sound system?

They're all, of course, adobe'sfault.

I hate to say it, but I've lost fai in this company.

After the two first weeks, this situation appears to be some thief proccess.

Get your money back while you can.

I just tried the safe mode 'solution' and the flickering doesn't occur in photoshop but this really isn't an ideal workaround.

I'm not experiencing any of the other problems people are stating.

It's seriously annoying because to be honest, I'd rather not get rid of this machine now. Can't someone workout what is being disabled in safe mode and figure out what could be causing this?

All i can see that could maybe relate to the issue is this (from http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564)

Safe Mode in Mac OS X v10.5 or later also disables Quartz Extreme (hardware accelerated graphics). Applications that depend on Quartz Extreme will not open, and the Mac OS X menu bar will appear solid even if "Translucent Menu Bar" is enabled in Desktop & Screen Saver preferences.

That says applications that DEPEND on Quartz Extreme will not open but just because Photoshop isn't dependant on it doesn't mean to say it doesn't USE it.....

I don't know but someone out there must have some idea whats going on.

Also, I can't believe out of the thousands of air owners in the world only a few are posting here; the problem can't be that rare surely?
