iphone 4s wifi greyed out.

hi i restart all the settings for my iphone 4s but it seems not working. Still wifi greyed out. What happen to APPLE. Is there any ways to resolve this kind of problem?

Try the troubleshooting suggestions in http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1559 and if that does not help, a user has found that it helps to:


Go to Settings and turn Airplane Mode and Do Not Disturb ON

Power down and wait 5-10 minutes

Power up

Go to Settings and turn Airplane Mode and Do Not Disturb OFF


If that does not help, backup your content and go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings and then restore from the backup.


If that still does not help, take it to an Apple store genius bar for testing by the technicians.

There's a difference between moderation of the site by the site admin and Apple technical support getting involved. Unless there is a response from a Community Specialist, and they will be identitifed by that title in their profile, and the question thread will get an 'Apple' symbol next to it, then Apple has not officially responded or gotten invloved in that thread.


As for why I'm active on this website? I'm retired (well, semi-retired, actually), so I have free time to use as I see fit. And I've criticzed Apple very often. I'm a big proponent of them having longer standard warranties on iOS devices. And I've made my opinion known to them. But until the warranty is changed, we have to work with the current reality.


It's not relevant what other companies do, especially companies that are in totally different industries. But I'll give you an answer anyway; why do auto manufacturers issue recalls more readily than smartphone companies? For one, government regulations are more strict on automobiles, and two, no one ever died because a smartphone company didn't issue a recall in time.


Show me that your or anyone else's life or health are in danger due to wi-fi being greyed out on your iPhone, and you might have a case.

For $849 worth of product one should reasonably be able to expect the phone to last more than one year. The fact that's all apple choose to warranty it for is neither here nor there. That the phone is sold as part of a 2year contact make it even more reasonable an assumption. Take them to court for all costs incurred.


With apple whether it's hardware or software it's all their fault. At the time MS software was ridiculed they only did software -Apple do, and sell their product with, both.

When making a $849 purchase, I make sure that I understand the terms of the warranty before making the purchase.


You bought the phone. You agreed, simply by making the purchase, to agree to the terms and conditionsof the warranty.


You won't get very far in court basing your arguments on 'assumptions'. There's not a lot of legal precedence for that.

It is unfortunate that your replies are filled with such contempt for the likes of the average user. Your statement that replacing the hardware fixes the issue therefore it is a hardware issue is not necessarily correct. The reality is that there are numerous chipsets out there for providing wireless functionality. Addressing these chipsets is done via the OS and when updates are done to an OS and it is not tested fully with all the various chipsets that may have been used then you can end up with issues like the one described. Yes you can fix the issue by replacing the wireless chipset with a different one that is known to work but the issue is still rooted in the OS update. The fact that a majority of issues with computers of all varieties is usually caused by software still leads me to strongly suspect this as the cause. The fact is that numerous problems have been reported since IOS 7 was released and folks are frustrated at the length of time it is taking Apple to respond to these issues. This is my last response to this thread.

You claim that the OS is not tested on all the various chipsets? Support that argument, because it's completely baseless.


Let me ask you this. If your laptop computer stopped connecting to wi-fi, and you wiped the computer clean, and did a full reinstall of the operating system, and it STILL didn't work... would that lead you to believe the problem was the software (which you JUST reinstalled) or the wi-fi antennae?


Respectfully, you are operating on limited information and faulty assumptions.

Paying consumers run to this site to seek help, they are frustrated, desperate...you are for whatever reason gloating, even desperately trying to promote that you are knowledgeable. If you really want to lick Apple's behind, please do it in another forum...it is an insult to every full paying iphone owner in this site to read your messages...


Now to the company behind Apple - If Apple is unable to listen, help, give buyer satisfaction or improve their product - it's fine, we all learned our lesson, we will take our money and purchase other devices which have nothing to do with Apple.


A simple and quick fix - good luck to Apple for their dipping public shares, the market can't be wrong and they deserve this growing unpopularity and dwindling shares.

The amount of time I have on my hands is irrelevant. However, I have been helpful. I've explained exactly why this has occured, and what the options are. I've even provided a script to assist those trying to get Apple to grant an out-of-warranty exception, and avoid the trap of the 'blaming the iOS and being reminded of the terms of the iOS update'. Blame the iOS, you get no where. Blame the hardware, and you have a chance.

That's how you have the best chance to get the device replaced for free if it is outside of warranty.


Blaming the software is not only false and ignorant, it will get you nowhere.

Blaming the hardware? Not only is that the actual cause of the problem, you've got a shot at replacement.

The user bought the hardware, believing it to be free from defects. That's their defense. But if you claim it's the software? Well, sorry, but you signed a legal agreement to accept any and all consequences of the optional software update.



As far as Apple shares dropping? Um, no. Their stock price is higher today than it was six months or a year ago. Apple is not experiencing any 'backlash' because of this issue.

To all here this will only help those in Australia. Apple aren't really putting this out there but they have agreed to give a two year warranty on all products. This was brought about so they would comply with Australian consumer laws.


The ACCC Chairman said “The ACL consumer guarantees have no set expiry date. The guarantees apply for the amount of time that it is reasonable to expect given the cost and quality of the item or any representations made about the item,”


If you are in Australia and bought an iPhone after 2011 then you have a two year warranty. I believe the law is correct in that if you pay a premium price for a premium item then that item should be expected to operate for a reasonable amount of time.


Apple still run their standard one year warranty at the same time. Google financial review "Apple gives Australians two-year warranty" for more information.

After installing 6 upgrade my wifi was grey and the Bluetooth would just cycle like it was connecting but never connect. After following all the bs apple told me to do with resetting and all the bs the phone still didn't work. I took it in to my local store (45) minutes away and waited for about 2 hours with my 5 year old impatient daughter. The rep looked at my phone and ran a check and said it was a software issue and told me that I could replace my phone for 200 dollars. Now if I had dropped or gotten my phone wet I could understand a charge but a faulty phone they wanted to charge me money. After talking to several people I got no where with not paying the 200 dollar fee for their phone messing up so I left with my pos phone that they created due to the upgrade. After dealing with Apple and their money hungry bs I am done owning a pos apple product that they don't stand behind

I had my Iphone 4S replaced to a new Iphone4S in January even Apple standard 1 year warranty had already expired (Under the UK/EU consumer law act.) This new phone had warranty of 3 months, and guess what? I had the same greyed out wifi problem again on the new replaced iphone within 3 months.


I would opt out all the suggestions that its a software upgrade and which software version upgrade did this to someone, or doing some work arounds will solve it, or it was a certain app etc etc etc. I happen to have this phone in January and didn't use this phone alot . i.e. no upgrades, no app installed etc. And yesterday the wifi gone grey again for no good reason. Also, I have found that even if wifi comes back working (for whatever reason), its all temporary as you expect it to go down anytime it would like.


Spoken to the costomer services and they gave me 'good news' that because i'm still in 3months time on my 2nd phone, i'm still in warranty so no problem!.


My concern still remains there that what happens if it was over 3 months time on this phone? or else, what if I get replacement 3rd phone and it has grey wifi again after 3 months?


Why Apple doesn't own this problem that it was a faulty hardware/software/blabla ... and certain iphone series is effected and they recall all of those? If you search on internet / apple discussion forums, It certainly isn't a case of a single iphone but its a mass production problem and unless Apple doesn't look for it, its going to be equivilent mass population switching to other competetors in future. Apple wake up !
