Can't manage iPhone data on iTunes

When I plug my phone (iPhone 5) into my laptop (MacBook Pro), open iTunes (latest version), and select my device, there is no "On this iPhone" tab. [See image below.] Next to the "Photos" tab there should be a tab that says "On this iPhone," and when selected it shows the library of songs on your device, but I have nothing, so I can't see or manage any of the songs on my phone from iTunes.

I've restarted both the phone and the laptop, but had the same problem.

I've plugged the phone into a different computer and had no problem. I've plugged a different device into the computer and had no problem.

Does anyone have any idea what I could be doing wrong??

MacBook, iOS 6.1.4

It looks like you might need to make the iTunes window wider, it should then show to the right of 'Photos'.

Or you can enable the left-hand sidebar via option-command-S and access it via that instead.
