Reset apple ID emails received but not requested

Hi

After a number of years with everything working beautifully, I've had two auto emails this month explaining how to reset my Apple ID password, but have not requested them at any time. I'm concerned someone is trying to hack my account - has anyone else experienced this recently? Should I be concerned? I know it says at the bottom that "Most likely, someone just mistyped their email address while trying to reset their own password" but once could be a mistake, but twice in a month? Hmmm

Thanks

Katie

E-mail from Apple:

Last Thursday, an intruder attempted to secure personal information of our registered developers from our developer website. Sensitive personal information was encrypted and cannot be accessed, however, we have not been able to rule out the possibility that some developers’ names, mailing addresses, and/or email addresses may have been accessed. In the spirit of transparency, we want to inform you of the issue. We took the site down immediately on Thursday and have been working around the clock since then.

In order to prevent a security threat like this from happening again, we’re completely overhauling our developer systems, updating our server software, and rebuilding our entire database. We apologize for the significant inconvenience that our downtime has caused you and we expect to have the developer website up again soon.

I kept receiving the emails with the link to reset my apple I'd password even though I had never requested to, so I ignored them and deleted them. However, I received the same email and directly after I was sent another email confirming my password had been reset even though I hadn't even opened the first. When I tried my password it no longer worked on any of my devices, so it had been changed by someone.

I reset my password immediately through the apple site (and not the email) and changed my email account password.

Your password can only be reset in one of two ways.

At appleid.apple.com (meaning the person must know your Apple ID and your Apple ID password.

At iforgot.apple.com (meaning the person requested a recovery email to be sent to the primary email on file for the Apple ID, and then used that email's password to log into the email account.

It's a good idea to change your passwords every so often, to not use them on public computers, and to have different passwords for your different accounts.

@Xian: That's different than a group of hackers trying to 'flood' the servers. Netherscourge was jumping to an unsupported conclusion. This is just normal phishing. It's easy to foil, and doesn't mean that Apple's Apple ID servers are compromised.

I have received 10 of these emails in the past four days! Our IT department doesn't seem to be concerned, but I've even changed my password and am still getting them. Apple, this is concerning if this is a system error on your part, because we don't know when there really is an issue or not. Please let us know if you are having problems again. I've had two iTunes accounts for years and never had any issues until now.
