Multiple e-mails about resetting my Apple ID - hacking?

Hi All,

Over the past 2 weeks I've had 5 separate e-mails giving me details about how to reset my Apple ID.

At the bottom of each e-mail it says,

"If you weren't trying to reset your password, don't worry – your account is still secure and no one has been given access to it. Most likely, someone just mistyped their email address while trying to reset their own password."

It seems like someone is requesting a link to reset my Apple ID. And doing so on a regular basis.

Should I worried about this? Is it an attempt to hack my account?

Many Thanks

I found this and other posts, as I Googled the issue, having started receiving these mails as well.

It seems that Apple's Developer portal has been hacked: http://www.macworld.com/article/2044865/apple-explains-extended-developer-portal -outage.html

Apple say that no customer information was taken, but all these sudden emails would indicate to me otherwise.

I don't think most of the people who have been receiving these emails are developers, so I doubt the two issues are connected. It's not at all clear what is going on. Not everyone is receiving them - I haven't, so far - and the one I saw the headers for looked genuine (though that isn't absolute proof). If it's a scam the point of it isn't obvious - it may be a glitch at Apple's end. A response from them on this would certainly be helpful.

Over the last week I have had 8 emails telling me how to reset my password. Last night around 2:30am I tried to get my emails only to discover that someone, NOT ME, had actually either changed my password or tried so many times my account was locked for security reasons.

I've reset my password again to a longer, more ambiguous password now and hope that it stops. What worries me is the frequency of the emails before it stopped. Clearly someone having a go at hacking accounts here and apple need to be able to step up and investigate those who are doing it. There doesn't appear to be an area where you can tell them this is happening.

Lucky for me I am working night shift, so the time between successful emails and the deactivation was only 5 hours, but some wouldn't notice for a good 12 or so!

Here we go again!!

I reset my phone to factory settings last week as well as another new password, all has been normal............until today!

Firstly my password was incorrect then I had an e-mail from Apple to say that my ID was used to download on a computer or device in Canada, I'm in the UK!!

I have had an iPhone since they were released however now I'm seriously considering changing completely, I have removed my cc details but I cant be expected to change and create a new password at least 3 times a week!!

APPLE WHERES OUR HELP

I also just received an email from Apple to say someeone in Canada has downloaded an app from my credit card account. Apple have confirmed the email is a genuine Apple one, but they could only have got my details from ITunes!!

I've been on online chat with Apple now for the last hour and because the UK accounts dept is closed, there is nothing that can be done until i speak to Account Security tomorrow.

The person I spoke to said they take our account security very seriously.....yeah right!!!!

Ridiculou!! I've now got to cancel my card which will be a right pain in the butt and then when I enter a new one, the hacker will just be able to get that too!!!

For what it's worth, my policy is not to keep a credit card in iTunes. If I want to make a purchase I put one in, and then remove as as soon as I'm done. It's a nuisance of course - I don't actually make many purchases and obviously if you make a lot it's a pain - but at least it puts a stop to this problem.

In the meantime, change your password to something really strong.

The fact this has been going on for months and Apple has said nothing is really sad. I started recieving these emails right around the time the developer forum got hacked but I am not a developer. Luckily they are using an email not tied to my Apple ID and they are addressing me as John Smith. How did they get my email to begin with? I removed the CC I had on file as soon as I started getting these emails.

I am unable to delete my credit card from my account at the moment as I am not near my main computer and from what i understand there is no way of accessing my account on an IPad.

It's not something I can check, not having an iOS device, but an Apple Tech note says this:

If you are using iOS 6 or later, tap Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Sign In or Create New Apple ID.

If you are using iOS 3 through iOS 5, tap Settings > Store > Sign In or Create New Account.
