Multiple e-mails about resetting my Apple ID - hacking?

Have you seen my password ? Its got small letters, capitals, numbers and dots inbetween.

I use 3 different types of passwords....and this is my 'simplest' one..... Never had a problem before.

Its Apple's fault......i mean if we cant trust Apple then who can we trust ?

My pass cannot be cracked. It would take ages to crack it, years.....so either they stored our passwords in plaintext or i dont know......

I thought it was your Twitter account that was hacked?

right, and isnt it funny that it got hacked a week after apple got hacked ?

When the only reason and use for it was to hook it up to my device ?

I think you may be making invalid connections. It was specifically Developer accounts which were compromised - I assume you aren't a Developer? (It costs money, so you'd know.)

In any event, it would probably be a point of wisdom not to use the same password in more than one place.

I signed up as a developer so it was also my account that got hacked..

If i didnt have multiple e-mails about resetting my apple id, why would i even be in this thread.

I got like 100 different programmer sites that i use the same password...I am using this password on computer related sites...it has nothing to do with my paypal, ebay etc passwords....just for sites that i use for my work.

I've been using this password for 13 years. I remember the exact time when i created it cause it took me weeks to learn it.....and you are telling me.....that apple gets hacked....and that i shouldnt have the same pass in different sites ? Thats your saying in all this ? Not that APPLE GOT HACKED, not that they said our passwords were safe...and obviously they are not.....you're saying i shouldnt have the same password...

How you handle your passwords is up to you. All I'm saying is that the general suggestion is that it may not be a good idea to use the same password in a lot of places as if it does get compromised a lot of areas will be affected.

In the past week both myself and my wife (different email addresses) have had our passwords reset. I'm sick of all these email messages. My wife has had a free download used on her account to a different device. I'm sure this is either an inside job or Apple have been hacked. After talking to customer support it was suggested that MY email had been hacked. It's a bit of a coinsidence that both our email accounts were hacked at the same time.

Could it be that someone is trying to increase downloads of certain games to influence popularity. I've read the same thing happening in another forum. Luckily the downloads seem to be free ones.

I won't be supporting Apple after my latest IPad is being replaced.

3 weeks ago we got 2 or 3 emails at both the email address we use for the Itunes account on the pc upstairs and the the email address for my phone saying "how to reset your apple ID password". Then a few days ago we got an email on the pc itunes email address saying a game had been downloaded in the US (we are in Scotland) and Name and Credit Card details had been changed. We changed the password immediately however today we have had another email saying it has been changed again so we again we have changed it - I am getting very worried about this. I also can't see anywhere to look at the credit card details that are on that account.

I had 3 emails in the space of 2 hours a couple of nights ago "how to reset your apple ID password" so I've bitten the bullet and gone into my account and changed the security to Two-step verification. This way any downloads are tied to the Apple devices that you specify. I recommend everyone does this to be on the safe side. It doesn't take much longer to use.

And still no official statement from Apple!

I don’t know if this is related to the reset-password problem, but I’m curious if others have experienced this.

In mid-July, as I wrote above, I received several “reset password” emails addressed to my Apple ID Recovery email address. About a week after that, I started receiving a fair amount of spam at my main Apple email address, all of it relating to “get medications”, various drugs etc. I noticed it because I get almost no spam at this address. Looking at the mail headers, a number of them are from foreign countries (.tr especially), and if I interpret the headers correctly, they were passed as “not spam” by Apple’s own mail filters.

It could, of course, be coincidence, but I use my main Apple email address sparingly and in select circumstances.

Has anyone else experienced this? It leads me to think that external factors (e.g. hacking attempts) are responsible for the reset-password emails, and not just some glitch in the Apple accounts system.

I've been getting the same email for about a year now. If I ignore the original email, about a half hour later, I get the "your email has been reset" and I need to go in and change the password, even when I have not been using the computer or phone all day. Anyone that knows or could find my email address could be doing this. Seeing how many other people have experienced this, I'm guessing that's not what's happening.

Has Apple made any respose to this?

Yeah, I know this thread is a little old but this is still happening. I've pretty much been getting these for the last year or so as well. At first I though it was just phishing, until I inspected the email further and discovered they were actually originating from the password reset page. Decided to look it up today, kinda glad to see it's not just me. Thinking our emails were harvested from sites and other compromised accounts. As always though, if you're concerned about any account, you should go directly to their site to log in. appleid.apple.com

Maybe the spammers' plan is to keep bombarding you with them, until you finally get sick of them and you open that one phishing email and decided - FINE, flip you! I'm going to reset my **** password through this link...

This is now happening to me aswell, the first day I got 7 emails, This only started to happen after I contacted apple support for help.

The emails arrived the day after i talked to apple on the phone about resetting my security questions.

I still keep getting them, but now its not as many, but its not the same amount as the first day.

Still receiving these 'how to reset' emails - been going on for months. Then today received an email saying that my account has been used for a download from the United States (I live in UK) on a device previously not associated with my account. So, apple is effectively admitting that my account has been hacked.

I am not a developer and in fact I do not use use my account any more as I had so many problems with apple (account continually being blocked among many other problems) that I sold all my apple devices except my iPod Classic, which I now manage with a 3rd party application, having removed iTunes and all other apple software from my PC.

I have removed payment information from my apple id and they will never see another penny from me as long as I live.
