volume fluctuation on macbook air

I have just purchased a new 2013 13" MacBook Air, and the volume seems to fluctuate by itself when I play back any videos. Does anybody know what causes this? Is there a fault with my Mac?

Yes. Boom definitely solves this audio glitch. I checked downloading the app and it worked magic.

Moreover the app increases the overall system's volume. There are some equalizers too which were helpful.

Checked with my bluetooth speakers and it really boosts the Mac volume everywhere.

I will definitely recommend everyone to check out the app.

While watching streamed video news broadcasts, I notice that the Air's volume starts quiet, builds considerably, and then drops significantly after a moment of silence (typically when there is a short silence between the end of a report and the beginning of the newsreader introducing the next topic). Just watched a 15min news broadcast and it happened almost every time there was a silent transition back to the newsreader back in the studio.

Well, that's one of three marks checked on my hours-old MBA 13/i7/8/512.

That ESPN clip is all over the place. Comparing it to my iMac where the audio is perfect, the MBA is just turning the volume up and down like crazy.

I was kind of expecting it to be "compressor-like", in that a loud sound would cause it to turn down the volume excessively for some period of time. If anything, it's the opposite. A brief period of silence will provoke the speakers to turn down the volume.

Also, the "noise cancellation" idea doesn't sit too well with me, as ambient noise doesn't have any effect on the volume. I've tried making tons of noise near the mics and staying completely silent — neither has any apparent effect. The volume goes up and down as it pleases.

EDIT: The idea about it dropping after a short period of silence doesn't seem true (all the time). Mine just dropped about 20 dB in the middle of a sentence.

I can confirm the fluctuating volume through the internal speakers on Mac Book Air 2013 13" (256 GB SSD, 8 GB RAM). Within the exchange period I have change the Mac book air, because I thought it's a dead on arrival (DOA) case. But this problem occurs again with the replacement Mac Book Air. It's apparently a basic hardware or software problem.
