volume fluctuation on macbook air

I have just purchased a new 2013 13" MacBook Air, and the volume seems to fluctuate by itself when I play back any videos. Does anybody know what causes this? Is there a fault with my Mac?

MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2013), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8)

yes, it costs $6.99 but THAT is a lot cheaper than returning the computer, getting a new one and spending 8 hours reinstalling everything on it..........and it makes the speakers louder and adds an equalizer!.......so until the fix comes from Apple, youll still WANT the app even AFTER the fix!

I have been running BOOM for 1 week now and the problem is gone. I have determined at least on my machine that it is definitely a software problem.

Awesome news! More of the same, good reports problems resolved until a fix comes down the way,,....even still, no reason not to consider BOOM a permanent fix, .....but Apple is working on it,......again bright side,....at least my idea proves its NOT a hardware problem. 😉

Glad to see we have all come to the same conclusion about this being software and not hardware. Boom does work, I'll give it that, and thanks to them for pointing out a bandaid. However, I'm waiting for Apple to fix (which will be soon). My headphones and external speakers do not have the same fluctuations as the internal speakers. Unless your business, livelyhood, etc, is affected by the internal speakers, save the $7... If your paycheck depends on the internal speakers - you are doing it wrong - get external amplified speakers LOL.

If you have a moment, give Apple a call and report the issue. You do not need to give up your hardware if it's not convenient. The more configurations Apple can take notes from, the quicker they will solve this problem. They do read these boards, but it's not the same as talking with Apple and giving them useful information.

I pointed out the bandaid, not them 😉

thats not important though,....lol

I agree Apple should be called if youve got an issue, ...my only point was:

A: its not hardware, so those with the problem maybe could "sit for the fix to come down"

B: it fixes it in the meantime, and is a great app to have regardless

C: Using this $7 APP would seemingly be a blessing VS. taking it back for another one, and spending 8 hours reloading all your apps / stuff etc.

I dont know about other people, but if i know:

A: its not hardware...

B: Apple knows about the problem and is working on a software fix,......then I feel comfortable waiting a bit for a fix from the Mothership.

*The occasional 1 or 2 problems any MAC has is nothing compared to the 10,000 problems my "other" systems had. Nothing is perfect in life, Apple is great about addressing any issue, and I love em' for it.

I've got maxed out 11" MBA about a week ago and have not noticed any issue as of yet.

I just read about this issue on AppleInsider, and then I thoroughly checked my Air and still no issues at all. I noticed most people with 13" MBAs having this issue or something. Anyone with 11" MBA having this issue? Does it happen randomly, after some time?

Anyways, I have tried all of the links in this tread, youtube, itunes, safari, vlc but all appears to be perfectly fine on my Air.

Also bought a new MacBook Air 13" just a couple of weeks ago and at first thought it was just doing that fluctuation thing with dvds (which i played using the apple support), but it does it with quicktime and youtube as well. I bought it in Italy if this can help in any way globalizing the problem. I will definitely contact apple here to see what they have to say..

I had an problem with my MBA 2013 not coming out of sleep and then noticed the audio issue while watching Netflix. Had three AppleChat sessions over the course of a week with tech support: Reset SMC, then Reset PRAM, finally did a Mountain Lion reinstall at the suggestion of Apple tech support. From what I can tell, after the reinstall, no further issues for two days, with either sound or sleep mode.

This is a KNOWN software issue, a fix is coming, if you are inclined in the meantime, many people have resolved the issue by installing the BOOM program available at the app store, as I earlier discovered fixed this temporary issue.

Until the fix comes, its certainly NOT a hardware issue.

Since a fix is coming,.......from my personal opinion, buying a $7 APP until the fix is issued via download.....it beats returning your AIR for yet another AIR, and spending 8 hours reinstalling all your apps, and personal stuff on a third computer.
