volume fluctuation on macbook air

I have just purchased a new 2013 13" MacBook Air, and the volume seems to fluctuate by itself when I play back any videos. Does anybody know what causes this? Is there a fault with my Mac?

MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2013), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8)

Just want all to know that the BOOM application I have installed is still working well at correcting this problem. I have now watched several videos from various sources and applications, and none of them manifest the problem with BOOM installed and turned on.

<<<<<<<<<<THATS WHAT I SAID 7 PAGES ago................. thanks for confirming it. Logically therefore it is NOT a hardware issue........ as to this being a "widespread" issue as some here have stated, that is without any question absolutely NOT the case.

Actually, even if you DID NOT have the audio issue, .....having BOOM is a really really GREAT app to have on your AIR and Macbook Pro........its very well worth the $7 😉

Logically, now, UNTIL Apple issues an update for this issue, download and buy the BOOM APP,..............Id consider this (now that 6 people here confirm my idea that BOOM fixes the issue) as PROBLEM FIXED.

As for "permanently fixed", just a short wait for Apple to issue an update....... but honestly even AFTER the update, having the BOOM app is still a desirable app to own for your Macbooks and AIRS 😁

Should you have to "buy an APP" to fix an issue? NO...... but it FIXES the problem,.....and its worth having regardless.....and Apple is on the ball for updating a fix for it....... so its "solved and solved" all way around. That should make most everyone happy (or at least I think so) 😊

I really hope that they find that this is a software issue. I've just got my replacement unit and it has the exact same issue. It was CTO direct from Apple. Can you imagine how much this will cost them if it is in fact a hardware problem? Also, if hardware, what could it be? Speaker connection or?

Apple actually uses some incredibly EXPENSIVE minature high end speakers inside the Macbook AIR model,... (last generation were BOSE, and same for current generation unless proven wrong to the contrary). It just logically seemed so highly unlikely at all it was a speaker/hardware issue at all in this volume fluctuation issue.

Well, a workaround that works BETTER than the original, id consider a "fix",.....but hey, I get where youre coming from.

Is $7 better than returning your computer for another, and spending 8 hours reinstalling everything? OH YES!

Well, theres lots of stuff we shouldnt have to "pay for",......I wish MS OFFICE came on my MAC too, but I gotta pay for it.

Its, lets say,........."RESOLVED" until a few more days or so until Apple issues an update......

but HEY, most important, this original idea of mine PROVES its not Hardware!!!!! So , be happy its a simple little software/ firmware update and not a hardware problem. !! Look on the bright side 😉

Owning BOOM, problem fix or not, is a really great addition to any macbook or mac AIR anyway. Consider it a "speaker improvement tax" LoL 😊

I guess I'll be one more. I thought it was just an issue with CNN's LiveTV but obviously it's not. The audio seems to go super quiet then eventually back to normal volume over the course of a few minutes. It seems like it happened a lot when CNN was going to commercial. Tomorrow I'm actually scheduled to get a new MBA at an Apple Store because Apple Support wants my current 2013 MBA for a sleep issue I'm having and have posted about on another thread. Their "engineers" want it. Sounds like I have two issues. We're a part of Apple's hardware beta program! 🙂 I still love my MBA though.
