Is it still not possible to use Airport Extreme with DynDNS?

So, I have a brand new Airport Extreme at home on loan (the 802.11ac), and I am surprised to find that it still doesn't seem possible to use Airport Extreme with dynamic DNS services such as DynDNS?

It's been a while since I used an Airport Extreme, and I was really hoping this had been implemented by now.

If it indeed has NOT been implemented, what exactly does the "use dynamic dns" in the configurations panel do? How can it be used to serve a dynamic DNS outside the home?

Apple is so user friendly in other areas, but this seems like a big mystery to me.

IPod Therefore I am, having DynDNS allows me access to my entrire home network from external by being able to "find" my IP address since my service provider using Dynamic IP addressing and can change it from time to time. DynDNS provides the path to my home, regardless of what my service provide asigns to me. But it can only do that if it "knows" what my curren IP address is. This is what "client" programs on the computer or settings in most routers allow to happen: reporting to DynDNS my current actual IP address so that it "knows" where i am and can reroute my requests to the proper IP address.

Hope that helps....its much more than just accessing a disk... i access home automation, thermostats, lighting, main computer hard drives, external hard drives etc.

thanks,

Not sure if you tried to look further than this forum, but dyndns has a nice article on doing this http://dyn.com/support/airport-time-capsule-with-dynamic-dns/which works and explains both why it's different for apple routers and what needs to be done to get it working.

Hate to disappoint, but this discussion group is not a hotline to engineering and Apple folks don't tend to take input on this channel in the most part. Raising a bug with apple is generally the best way to get these things to change.

Btw: I am not an apple employee. Simply a user of apple, and a member of the apple community who sees these discussions as a place to ask for, and receive help and assistance.

hope this helps

Hi Yongjae,

I have 3rd generation of Time Capsule, firmware 7.6.4 and Airport Utility 6.3.4.

Since I could not make it work for DYNDNS and NOIP services, I've tried your solution using DUIA and it's still not working:

Hostname: <<mysubdomain>>.duia.eu

User: <<User/Token value from the DUIA account info>>

Password: <<MD5 pass value from the DUIA account info>>

I have also tried adding the Domain name in the airport utility, as seen in my screenshot: <<mysubdomain>>.duia.eu, duia.eu, leaving it blank, etc.

Any suggestions? Anyone being able to use this one or any other Dynamic IP provider?

Duiadns is working with apple router, but not by default. You need a 'special' User/Key/Token associated with your hostname and for this drop them an email.

It is also a free feature, i can tell you that since i'm the owner of Duiadns.

Let me give you an example (login to duiadns then go to settings -> account info):

The default user/key/token looks like: 2vsrx6z

The new user that works with apple's routers looks like: 2vsrx6z-key:zDLG6ehRcVeoyTUqP7tOJg==

So your credentials on apple airport's ddns page will be:

Hostname: myapplehost.duia.eu

User: 2vsrx6z-key:zDLG6ehRcVeoyTUqP7tOJg==

Password: <<MD5 pass value from the DUIA account info>>

We are working to integrate this on your duiadns account interface but until is done, request this key by email (support [at] duiadns.net).

I'm succesfully using Duidadns.net with the Apple router "feature", even though my Airport Extreme (1st gen, Firmware v7.6.4) is using a firmware newer than than v7.6.1, which doesn't work anymore with Dyn.com ( https://help.dyn.com/airport-and-time-capsule-with-dynamic-dns/ ).

I can reboot my DSL modem, and see that the DNS host gets updated with the new IP address.
