Government Alerts (AT&T) + MicroCell = dead battery

Sat. June 15, I get the Govt. Alerts update (OTA) to my iPhone 4, 6.1.3.

My battery drains fast, used to last 48 plus hours, now lasts 6. I have a MicroCell device at home. Battery drains fast while phone's on the MicroCell network, but not if I'm in a nearby city with 3G service. I have another iPhone 4 in the same house on the same MicroCell network, it's battery usage is impressive, lasts like 72 hours with moderate usage, but this phone runs 6.0, not 6.1.3 and was not sent the Gov. Alerts update. My phone goes from "ATT Microcell" displayed in the top of screen to "Searching" and back to ATT Microcell every 2.5 to 3 minutes, clockwork, like it's disconnecting from the MC, then searching for another network, then reconnecting to the MC. There's a lot about this on the net, old problem. Funny thing, I got the MC one month ago, and it worked great, never experienced the battery drain until the Govt. update; in fact, the MC improved my battery life because I had a stable connection to the MC network and it wasn't busy searching all day for a marginal to poor signal, until the Govt. update.

So, here's my question: How do I fix it, the disconnect every 3 minutes all day/draining battery issue?

Had to add my two cents here because this is the first place I've seen where other people are having this same issue.

I have a less-than-six-months-old iPhone5. As soon as I did the "Carrier Settings" update, the battery drain was immediate and consistent. I did TWO wipe and restores on my phone to no avail. I brought the phone into the Apple store yesterday and the suggestion was to do a "DFU Resture" (which I'm now convinced means "Dummy-FU!") and set the phone up as a "new" phone (so I just wiped all my messages, photos, etc. except on a backup (and those are not easy to extract from a backup) plus I had to re-set up all my favorites, custom tones, bluetooth and even my voicemail. Today at work I had the same issue with battery drain and on top of that the phone is having a **** of a time actually connecting to a call (I'll have five bars and then have seven dropped "Call fail attempts" in a row (followed immediately by a "No Service" notice.) I'm in Los Angeles and travel all over the city for work and in areas where I know there is usual good coverage, I can't even seem to make a call (forget texting or email - unless I specifically turn on LTE, I can't do that).

I'm not on a microcell, so I have to agree with other posters here that I don't think this is MC related, but rather carrier update related.

I posted on Facebook warning friends on AT&T to ignore the update if they were notified of it and one of my friends posted "You don't get an option!!! Three of my friends and myself had it happen. It's all quirky now. Power button won't turn it off!!"

I'm heading back to the Apple store tonight after work to see if they can wipe this settings update and restore me to an old firmware. Barring that, a big LONG talk with AT&T customer service (through a land line apparently since I can no longer rely on my iPhone).

So I finally got the new microcell and the new carrier update(14.2) and all seems back to normal over the past 3 days. My connection to the microcell is steady and battery life is as expected. I don't think it had anything to do with the microcell and all to do with the update but that is just my 0.02. The reason that I don't think it was the microcell is that my old microcell had a stable connection as does the new one. Hopefully, everything continues to work and hopefully everyone else's issue gets resolved.

I have an iPhone 4 that recieved the emergency alert update a few weeks ago. I went to notifications after recieving the carrier notice and the emergency alerts were at the bottom. I left both of the alerts ON. Last night I had a conversation was an iPhone 4 user about these new emergency alerts - when I went to show him where they are located in notifications - they were gone. I think AT&T de-installed the emergency notification from my phone. Not sure why it was removed - maybe they relized the app is a serious battery drain.

It was strange to know it was installed & active and the next time I looked it's gone.

Has anyone else experienced this?

My IPhone 4 is running IOS 6.1.3 and the carrier is AT&T 14.2. Like i mentioned in the earlier thread - I found it strange that I received the carrier update notice, had the emergency alerts in notifications and the next time (2 weeks later) I looked they were gone. So it appears that the emergency alerts were installed and then de-installed for some reason.
