Intel Macbook and Plugins

Hi all, looks like I've found a mate who'll give me a good price for my powerbook, so I'm moving up to a macbook.
Just looking for a bit advice regarding plugins, I've got old mixes I may need to access and a currently unfinished project, both which contain PPC only plugins. I'm of the understanding that the plugins WILL work if I run logic in Rosetta mode? I should be able to finish the main project before handing over my pbook, but I'm just think of the future, should I need to access these projects will I be able to through rosetta. Performance shouldn't be an issue as it would probably only be to make tweaks.

Also I was going to bounce processed versions of the channels with the unavailable effects on them so unless I need to alter those effects themselves I shouldn't have to use rosetta.

Does anyone have any experience of using 7.2.1 under rosetta to get better compatibility with plugins?

NO WAY! That totally *****. Oh well, guess I'll have to do a bit of bouncing then! I just hope the people who make all the ace freeware plugins a cool enough to make universal binaries asap! Luckily all the plugins I've bought have already been re written.

Thanks for that info, it's disappointing, but you've saved me a lot of rushed extra work in the long run!

many times have i been disappointed in the lack of support of old, PPC plugins... and I'm starting out as a previous Windows user! I was checking out kvr-vst.com and I think they have about 5 universal binary plugins available. Haven't checked them out yet. I've been looking through my old Electronic Musician magazines, back from when I couldn't imagine ever using a mac, and I'm seeing TONS of plugins that I'd love to have, but can't.

Sad, really. I as well hope they start porting them over.

Yeah, the screen itself is great anyway, I was really worried about the glossy finish but so far it's not been a problem at all. It give much deeper colour/contrast. It's bright as well, sat next to my powerbook (with brightness on full) I had to turn the brightness down to 3 on the macbook to make it comparable.

The screen I'd say is about 1/3" taller, and about 1.5"-2" wider. The only thing that bugs me is the size of the bezel, it's not big in PC laptop terms, but compared to the PB it's a bit bigger. Not a problem though when weighed up against the pros.

I'd advise anyone who is in the running for a laptop to grab one.
People have been reporting a lot of problems with the first batch, mine at the moment seems free of all of them (said while touching wood).

Maybe safest to wait for the next revision, if you can that is!

Mine too is running perfectly, no mooing or anything, and compared with my old Powerbook, it runs quite chilled! It used to get boiling when maxing it out.
Fingers crossed for Royal Mail to deliver on monday, it's really quite frustrating that I can't run Logic!
Great to hear about the screen, I'm very much loking forward to seeing Logic in widescreen, it was never really the height of the screen that mattered to me, it's more the length anyway. Still, I'm looking forward to hooking it up to some bigger monitors, and to really putting it through its paces!
