I am unable to render Ken Burns effects without any third-party plug-ins installed. Any suggestions?

I am also clean of third party Quicktime extensions and I cannot render Ken Burns effects or Video FXs in iMovie HD 6.03 - when I move to the clip, it just abandons and gives me an error. I did not have this issue, or any other for that matter, in iMovie 5 and iDVD 5. I see there was an earlier patch/fix for Ken Burns for 6 and I'm assuming it is loaded in when I upgraded to 6.03.

Is it just me or is iLife 6 the most buggie upgrade they've done?

Well, add me to the list of those who gets a black preview screen when I try to change the Ken Burns effect in iMovie 6.0.3. Here's what I did:

Moved to external drive (it was mastered on the internal drive)
Moved back to internal drive under freshly created New User
Deleted Flip4Mac Folder
Deleted files for Divx, Flip4Mac under /library/Quicktime
Deleted FontCollections folder

I cannot manipulate images in iMovie. I feel like I'm stuck in mid-project! Thanks...
