Can't sign in to Facetime, stuck in login loop. And why so slow!!!

I have 2 issues. 1. I can't log in anymore. 2. When I was able to log in, my computer slowed to a crawl

LOGIN ISSUE

Facetime's audio was choppy and fuzzy yesterday so I closed the program and reopened it (normally I just end the call but this time I accidentally closed it instead). When I reopened it, it told me to sign in. But when I entered my apple ID and password, it went to another screen for a split second and then went back to the sign in screen. The other screen was there and gone so quickly that I couldn't read anything that it said (I can't read it but I think it was 4 lines and said "P..... use?").

I didn't change anything between closing Facetime and reopening it so I have no idea what the problem is.

I have updated my software so everything is the current versions. I've tried restarting the app and my Macbook. I tried looking on here and added 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 to my DNS list. My firewall is off. I tried using other apple IDs that I have. Nothing has worked.

My apple ID and password work with iTunes, email, and iMessage. Facetime also works on my iPhone and iPad.

PERFORMANCE ISSUE

Another issue I've had - my computer is pretty powerful but it slows to a crawl when I have Facetime running. If I try to use Safari or Word when Factime is open, there is a crazy typing lag. I have to close all programs when Facetime is up and I want to use Safari. Anyone else had this issue?

Had the exact same FaceTime login issue where that second screen briefly appears and disappears without any kind of error message.

Got it working again by removing the ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.FaceTime.<some-long-number>.plist file.

Next time you open FaceTime, a clean replacement file will be auto-generated, and login should work. Note that any favorites and recent calls will be cleared as a result of removing the file.

To browse your Library folder using Finder, open Finder, select the Go > Go To Folder... menu item, enter "~/Library" (without quotes), and press Go. From there you can find the Preferences and ByHost subfolders, and then the file.

While there are other FaceTime related files in ~/Library/Preferences and ~/Library/Prefences/ByHost, only the one was the problem for me. If removing it doesn't help, you can try removing the other files with names starting in com.apple.FaceTime, com.apple.facetime, or com.apple.imservice.FaceTime within those two folders.
