85-95 degrees celcius CPU temps

Hey all,

So I'm using the app 'Temperature Gauge' on my mid 2012 2.6GHz i7 macbookpro 15".

I'm using the computer pretty intensively for video editing and animation and noticed if I have two external drives plugged in and running the CPU temps start pushing just over 90 degrees celcius... but the fan speed remains around a constant 2000rpm regardless of whether the CPU's are running at 55 or 95 degrees...

I've read elsewhere that 90 degrees is the point at which the CPU's can start to be damaged... can anyone clarify or confirm this.

When the CPUs get too hot, you will experience sudden un-controlled powerdown. This occurs before the damage point.

There are similar Utilities to temperature monitor ¿ SMC fan control ? that allow you to set a floor under your fan speed if you wish.

For a convection current to form, you need a minimum air space of about 3/4 inch (20mm). Or perhaps you would like to look into cooler plates.
