Setting up new iPad mini

I used iCloud to set up my new iPad mini from my first generation iPad and now I want to take off the cloud off the original iPad and let my son use it but still keep it under my name but I don't want it to update to my new one... Is that possible?

Settings ->Mail,Contacts,Calendars. Remove the iCloud account there.

I don't think so, but I'm not completely certain. As always it would be wise to have backups on your computer for any content you could not easily replaced. I don't sync anything but Safari bookmarks and notes through iCloud on my systems and none of those have been deleted when I turned off iCloud syncing on any device, but for other data it may be different. Perhaps someone else who has more experience with turning iCloud on and off can offer more certain comments. Meanwhile, see:
