I have an old mac book pro 17 in. I recently had the screen replaced and I'm trying to start using it again. I have constantly tried to update it to the newest ios. I still have 10.4.11 and it won't let me do it. What do I need to do to upgrade?

I have an old mac book pro 17in. I recently had the screen replaced. I am having problems updating the ios. I am stuck at version IOS 10.4.11 Tiger. Anyone knows what I need to do to get it updated so I can go to the newer version which I know I have to pay for.
