Using Configurator vs iTunes?

Looking at Apple Configurator tools for setting up iPads. Can/should I use this as a standalone tool or in conjuction with iTunes?

How do these two interact or work together, if they even do?

Looking for the best way to restore iPads after they've been Disabled by too many passcode attempts.

Thanks — Lewis

Configurator is for configuring. iTunes is for syncing music/videos/books/calendar events with a computer. Use either or both.

However, if you're managing many iPads you may want to use Profile Manager (part of OS X Server) to configure them instead of Configurator. Configurator requires you to connect each iPad to a computer with one of those white wires each time you want to change something. Profile Manager will push changes remotely over any internet connection: you don't have to have the iPads each brought to your office.
