Also, a few others have said this might be a pop up traced from Facebook? Only two of my friends have had the same problem, and neither of them have a Facebook, or candy crush. This also cannot be from a text message, seeing that this happened on my IPOD. I do not own an iphone. Before my ipod was shut off, I managed to get a screenshot of the nasty pop-up, and put in on my facebook in order to see if anyone else has had the same problem. No luck. But here's the culprit itself in full pop-up mode: User uploaded file

That is a special kind of text message that should only be able to be sent by your cell phone's carrier (eg, Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, etc). Some carriers have allowed these texts to be sent by anyone, though abuse has resulted in most of them ending that practice. Hackers sometimes find a way to get through anyway. Report it to your carrier.

That's not what it is. I have just started getting the exact same pop-up, and I am using a 5th gen. iPod Touch. It can't receive carrier messages, being that it only has WiFi access to the internet.

What is happening to me is this: I start playing the TicBits "Sudoku 🙂" app. A couple of minutes into the game, the app starts getting sluggish, and cannot keep up with my fingers... I touch the screen, and it takes longer and longer for the game to respond to my touches while trying to fill in the numbers in the sudoku puzzle. Eventually, this stupid pop-up interrupts. If I hit cancel, it might pop up two or three more time in a row. If I hit OK, it pulls up the app store (I have just immediately hit the home button and restarted the sudoku game up to this point, but I will try to remember to let it take me all the way to the app it is trying to sell next time so I can report back, but I assume it's going to try to get me to download Candy Crush Saga).

I do not have Candy Crush installed nor do I want to install it). I am worried that this is some kind of malicious software, given how badly it affects the Sudoku app. I don't have any interesting information on my iPod Touch for a virus to steal other than the password to my Apple ID when I need to use the App Store or iTunes.

I have turned off Alerts for all apps other than Clock and Caendar, as I need those for appointment and alarm reminders. Nothing else should be allowed to use these alert pop-ups.

Hi, guys! I'm SO glad I wasn't the only one receiving this pop-up. And, i'd now like to make it clear that this is, indeed, a virus. Last night, I was just browsing my apps when it all started. It happened while I was on Facebook, Meetme, and even when I was just on my homescreen. I made sure I pressed "Cancel" every single time. It kept popping up about every five minutes. I was alarmed, and google searched it. It was weird to see that no one else was having the same problem, and haven't been able to find anything on it up until now.

After awhile, the pop-up resided. However, just like Nobox, my apps became very slow and some wouldn't even start back up. The whole day, I was trying to update my pinterest, and it just wouldn't download. Nothing was working. Frustrated, I turned my ipod off in order to restart it, hoping the problem would subside. I was wrong. VERY wrong. My Ipod no longer starts up; it gets stuck on the apple logo screen, goes black, goes white, and then turns off. Then, it turns itself back on and repeats the process. I called apple, and after a long two hour phone conversation, my ipod would not go into restore mode, and when hooked up to my computer, my itunes does not recognize it. I was instructed to make an appointment and now I have to bring it into the apple store. I'll be sure to keep everyone updated.

It appears to be a bit of javascript embedded in the advertisements in free apps that use ads to generate revenue. The Sudoku game I play has these ads, and this does make sense to me, because my iPod Touch has been in a steady state, with no app installs or upgrades being done for the past two months or so (I actually just now ran an "Update All", hoping that maybe the Sudoku people had released a fix, but it wasn't in the list of updated apps). This pop-up only started happening yesterday for me, so it couldn't be related to the code in any of the apps (unless it's a tricky virus that waits to a specific date or for a certain amount of time to pass before activating). Since the adds are brought in from an external source, they can be the only place that any new code could have been injected into my iPod's setup.

The de-obfuscated code snippet that was posted in the second link posted by lllaass did not appear to have any long-running loops in it that could be the cause of my lag issue, but it was just a snippet, and it's possible that there may be faulty code or some other reason that performance could be affected by the ad.
