I would like help solving a problem I've had since October last year with an iPhone 5 that I purchased from the Apple Store in Watford.
I had paid full retail price for a new item in August 2013 and the store staff helped me set the phone up with my Giffgaff SIM card.
My intention was to use it for a year then give it to my daughter to use when I bought a new phone.
So, come last October, I bought an iPhone 6 for my use and gave the iPhone 5 to my daughter.
To our annoyance it will not accept her Vodafone SIM, displaying the message: "The SIM card that you currently have installed in this iPhone is from a carrier that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server "
I've tried connecting it to iTunes and restoring to factory settings but the message in iTunes is "The SIM card in this iPhone does not appear to be supported".
When I've been to the Apple store they have told me that the iPhone became locked to Tesco mobile on the day I bought the unit and I know that Giffgaff piggy back on Tesco.
Giffgaff deny responsibility and although I managed to get one of the technical assistants in the Watford Apple Store to "escalate" the problem with Apple via email as of today I have not had a response to that action. Incidentally, it took three trips to the store before I got any acknowledgement that it was anything to do with Apple. The first 2 trips I was just told that they didn't lock iPhones. On the third trip the assistant acknowledged that if the iPhone wasn't set up correctly it could cause the phone to lock to the SIM.
It's totally unacceptable that I paid full retail price for an unlocked unit and Apple won't respond and unlock it for me in a timely fashion.
It is now 4 months since my phone became unusable and I still haven't had the problem resolved.
Can someone advise me how to get this sorted.
