upgrade 10.6 to 10.7 imac shuts off at end of installer, reboots to re-install boot-loop, now the drive is locked, help?

Was upgrading an imac for a client with parallels and upgraded from 10.5 to 10.6, update ran sucessfully, ran all the software updates and was running great, continued to upgrade to 10.7. started the 10.7 os upgrade and with about 7-8 minutes left on install the imac shut off, when i turned it back on. it restarted in the installer and reinstalled again and shuts off again at the end of the installer, this append 3 times in a row, powered off machine for a day, cam back this morning and reset the SMC and PRAM. booted back into the installer and now the drive is locked. wanting to save this drive rather than a fresh install becuase I dont want to have to reset all of his software and parrallels and windows and programs and apps. i may have to but thats worst case. i have tried using chflags 0 /volume* with no luck, just did a verify and repair on the disk using disk utility, got back into the installer. 33 minutes left. Im afraid it may fail, i do not think the image is back i have used the usb stick many times with the image to install and this is my first issue. ok 19 minutes remaining going to watch closley and update post with result -

So it failed again, running out of ideas. tried from USB and cd both have the same issue, ran tech tool pro and no errors all hardware seems to be good, wiped and rebuilt usb installer trying again. if this doesn't work a may have to go in and manually back up files and do a clean install, just was trying everything i could think of first becuase the client is not close and would have to make a hefty drive out to my location, with his copies of parallels and windows and reloading, drivers. printer setups, his software setup. was trying not to deal with redoing all of this if i could just repair install the upgrade like i can do with a windows install. if anyone has any ideas please touch base. I was certified in Austin and hold ACMT. this is the first time ive ran into this issue. the closest thing i can think of is the 27" imac screen goes blank issue, and that is due to a graphics card kernel extension on AMD cards. this unit has an ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB of GDDR3 memory the unit goes black right @ 7 minutes remaining . screen just goes black. unit powers off. can power machine back on. any help appreciated

so after about 5 more tries it finnaly finished the installer. once i was able to get into the system i created a new, full, time machine backup, pushed the 10.7 updates. its possible that one stick of ram could be bad and wasn't detected, updated my techtoolprotogo package. now installing 10.8 over 10.7. once installed with updates ill optimize the system with onyx and then run tech tool to retest the new memory. not sure of what cuased the issues yet just glad im making progress, will hopefully jump in the utilites folder and check the system logs to find out what was the cuase. update shortly -cw
