Adobe flash player uses 250% of my cpu playing videos...how is that possible?
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7), Silver 17" Core-i5
Do you have a 2 or 4 core i5?
If it's a 4 then Flash is using 2 cores completely and half of a third, if it's a 2 core i5 something is wrong (Flash is bad)
That is totally possible if you do not have Flash set to
enable hardware accelerations. Right click on a playing
Flash video and select settings from the pop up.
Click the little monitor icon at the bottom left corner.
Check the check box "Enable hardware acceleration."
With out this set, the CPU does all the work of decoding the
video instead of the video card.
update:
As a quick check, went to Hulu and started an episode of
Warehouse 13. With hardware acceleration enabled, CPU
was at 37% for Flash. With hardware acceleration disabled,
this jumped up to 138%.
The test was done on a 2011 Mac Mini Server 2.0 GHz, quad core i7.
