Cannot connect to the internet: Error 102 the server refused the connection

Hello all,

As of recently I have been unable to connect to the internet on my iMac. Chrome gives the message: Error 102 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED): The server refused the connection. Firefox and Safari also say they cannot connect to server.

It is a 2009 iMac running 10.8.2. 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 8GB ram

CLUES:

The Wifi signal strength is regestered as full, and according to Network Prefrences I am connected and have an IP address. When I try Network Diagnostics it let's me know my internet connection appears to be working correctly.

I can ping websites.

I can connect to other computers connected to the same wifi.

I do not use a proxy server or firewall

ATTEMPTED SOLUTIONS:

I restarted the wifi: NO EFFECT

I restarted the router: NO EFFECT

I restarted my computer: NO EFFECT actually the problem started after restarting my computer to try to deal with another seemingly unrelated problem with Adobe After Effects

I scaned my computer using MacScan: NO EFFECT

All of this started after I restarted my computer to try to deal with the "Ram Preview needs two or more frames" error in Adobe After Effects. After restarting the computer After Effects doesn't even open properly anymore saying that various plug-ins and codecs are missing. It seems unrelated, but both problems appeared at the same time, so I dunno.

iMac, 10.8.2

Hello, we best start with this...

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.

(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive, & clearing cache files.)

Report any changes afterwaords please.

Triple-click the line of text below on this page to select it:

kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}' | open -f -a TextEdit

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. You can then close the TextEdit window. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
