Aperture error opening database for library

I was working in Aperture--deleting photos--when it crashed. My Mac Book Pro rebooted but in trying to open Aperture after it rebooted, I got this message:

"There was an error opening the database for the library “/Users/rick/Pictures/Aperture Library.aplibrary”. My only option on the pop-up was to quit.

I found a suggestion here online to find the Aperture library, hold Command-Option and double click the library which supposedly would bring up a repair menu. It didn't. I got the same message as i did on trying to open Aperure quoted above, and again the only option was to quit Now I can't even open Aperture.

Any ideas how to get my library back? Thanks.

Do some diagnostic tests to narrow down the problen and post the results, please:

  • Try to launch Aperture while holding down the shift-key. Is that possible? Do you get the aplication window to open?
  • If not, can you create a new Aperture library, if you hold down the ⌥-key while launching Aperture and select other/new from the panel?
  • And if you even cannot create a new library, can you launch Aperture from a different user account? See: Isolating an issue by using another user account

Your error message should show a crash report in the message that pops up. Copy and paste the first 50 lines only into your next message.
