Take it to an Apple store make an appointment and have it replaced. Make a backup first

Purchased iPhone 5 all out $800. Phone is now 1 year and 5 months old. Never dropped the phone. Always careful in use. Top button stopped working. Went to local Apple Store and talked to genius and genius manager about this problem. Apparently nothing can be done to fix the problem other than to buy a new phone. That is ridiculous after paying $800. I feel ripped off.

There is an inherent problem with the iPhone 5 top power button, but it can be fixed.

I fixed mine after it failed and by failing I mean it would sometimes take up to 10 presses

of the button before it actually worked!

Ebay sells the part required (around $18) and I had mine all fixed as good as new in 40 mins!

Apple saying that the problem can't be fixed is total bull!!

It can be fixed but obviously it's cheaper for them to simply sell you a new phone,

but of course more expensive for you (if ur outta warranty).

"Enable Assistive Touch: Tap SETTINGS, General, Accessibility, AssistiveTouch (near the bottom) and tap AssistiveTouch to ON. You will now notice a small dark square with a circle in the middle (you can move this square anywhere). Tap the dark circle to open the assistiveTouch menu, then tap Device and tap and HOLD the Lock Screen icon. This will bring up the iPhone's Power-Off slider - no need for a power button any longer! **Voted Best Method to turn off an iPhone with a broken power button"

and to restart just keep on charging your phone would start.

cheers guys have fun..
