itunes store error 0x80092013 windows 7

Ok before I start, I've started a new discussion because I want to layout all those things which I have tried to resolve this issue so before anyone posts a "try this" please read what I have already tried.

Symptoms - When trying to access the itunes store a dialog box comes up saying unable to access store error 0x80092103, additionally under itunes 11:04 if you try to run the diagnostics itunes freezes. Additionally the behaviour under an earlier version of itunes 10.6 when accessing the itunes store the error code was 1202 but you could run diagnostics to completion (which reports no errors)

Ok the things I've tried

Earlier version of itunes - as you can see from above I did try 10.6 but same symptoms just different error code

Re-installing itunes - Yes tried removing all instances of any programs which may have even looked closely related to anything apple, cleared all directories from windows explorer, rebooted and installed itunes but the same error displayed afterwoods. (Including appdata directories under [user] )

Date Time - Yes tried the date time, tried setting different timezones, with reboots inbetween, same error

Internet options - SSL3/TLS1 and server certificate revocation, tried these in various combinations with reboots in between, no luck

Winsock reset and dns flush - Again I have tried this using various combinations of rebooting and not rebooting, running at elevated admin lvl and placing the whole lot of commands in a script to then execute itunes but still the same error occurs.

Running itunes as admin and safe mode - Neither of these two options helped at all

Running without AV software or windows firewall switched off - Yep have tried this as well, but no luck

Microsoft Hotfix for Crypt revocation - 2615174, no joy either

Revert to earlier version of Apple installer - ApplicationSupport 1.5.2 - tried a couple of earlier versions, same error

Removed itunes preferences - Had covered this during previous install processes but thought it might be worthwhile trying post install, no luck same error.

Winsock conflict - Yes checked the autoruns to see what else was there, only other entry was an entry for microsoft entry for msmail.

The environemt is a windows 7 machine with the latest updates, the itunes store did work previously but stopped in the last week of may (as I'm told by the owner of the laptop, yes people this is an inlaws machine). When I first looked at the notebook I checked that no new programs had been added after the date itunes store stopped working. The rest of itunes is behaving ok, that is if you accept that itunes is a good piece of software :-) with the exception of the diagnostic tool freezing when it runs (ironic huh?)

The owner did do the right thing before calling on me and spent several hours on the phone with Apple support to no avail and gave up in frustration, which apparently pleased the Apple tech.

I'm sure I've tried a few more things(like diferent internet connections to rule out any isp based issues(they do have another desktop in the house which runs itunes store ok)) but none come to mind as you can appreciate I've spent quite a few hours on this.

So calling on itunes gurus please come to the rescue, funny though the absence of apple techs replying to the already many threads on this on their own forums suggests that they don't have a solution perhaps "incapable of" or "not bothered", either way it's pretty poor.

Hi all,

I have the same problem with my Windows 8.1 laptop and my guess is that since I changed my Internet Provider who now delivers IPv6 addresses the problem occurs. A frieend who has a different provider does not have the problem in his home, but when he tries using iTunes at my home with my network he gets the same problem.

I have already solved a previous problem with Outlook 2003 not being able to receive emails from my wifes GMail account although everything else worked fine. The solution here was to enter the IPv4 address of Google POP-Server in the hosts file, overriding the IPv6 address.

Maybe something similar helps with this iTunes error.

If someone knows the hostname of the iTunes Store server, it could be pinged and the IPv4 address could be determined and then entered in the HOSTS file.

I'll continue trying in this direction and will post a solution if I find one.

If someone has the iTunes server name or IPv4 address, please post it.

Well, I'd love to say I've found a solution, but unfortunately all I seem to have confirmed is that I rather suddenly have exactly the same problem.

Yesterday, iTunes Store worked fine (I even downloaded a movie yesterday evening). Today, I can't access it, and get the lovely 0x80092013 error whenever I try. Been through every official suggestion I could find through apple, and then everything I could find on the forums. No dice. Logs show a certificate problem. Also running Win 7.

The only thing I'm aware of that changed overnight is that windows got an update: a security update for the microsoft .NET framework.

I was able to fix it (hopefully it stays like that...) by setting my DNS-Settings from "getting them from provider" to OpenDNS' servers (after I tried "everything" else which was mentioned somewhere in the web)

208.67.222.222

208.67.220.220

for IPv4

and

2620:0:ccc::2

2620:0:ccd::2

for IPv6

Dunno if this may help other people, but ATM everything seems to work fine for me, and IMHO DNS wasn't mentioned as a possible problem before?!?

really poor support by apple... and a shame for a socalled IT Giant.

Thanks to community, espacially Karsten0815. Changing DNS Server works fine for me but one would think a company like apple should have a quality management and don´t release such bad software. If I would hand over my company a piece of software with such a bug - I would be unemployed instantly.

But - wait a moment. Then I need to give that iPhone back and I would no longer be in a need to use that crappy itunes. Worth thinking about it...

Hi Michel,

No it's not a connectivity issue.

If you had bothered to read the original post you would have seen that I can connect to the store (see image of column browser displaying titles). In addition the host machine for the VM is using the same connection and browsing the store without error messages.

This is a Apple product problem, specific to the rendering engine used by itunes (apple application support), in the case of Safari webkit2 (albeit a no longer supported product).

The Apple error log infers a certificate problem but other browsers are able to connect/display/render SSL sites, which suggests one of two things either itunes isn't reading the certificates store properly or it's not reading the IO config properly.

Using ms network monitor I can trace the client/server handshakes on the SSL/TLS exhange, no errors are reported, likewise process monitor does not register the itunes (1201/0x80092013) error dialog msgbox so no clues as to what is the actual problem itunes is having, inadequate error reporting being the offender.

Thank you all for reading and no doubt your intentions are good but please don't post without reading what has already been tried.

Note to the Apple devs, ...... seriously ... 25,000+ views, 8 months and no answer

Hi All,

With regards to error 0x80092013 – this relates to a failure of iTunes to correctly reference a valid CRL (which prevents the establishment of an SSL connection to the iTunes store).

Now, a large CRL endpoint recently moved locations, interesting just days after HeartBleed hit (see here: http://www.lyncblog.info/2014/04/update-your-firewall-now-with-this-new-crl-endp oint/). It would seem that iTunes requires access to this specific CRL.

For home users, your router, computer or browser may have cached the old CRL location, thus causing the issues with your iTunes connection – this is why the users attempting DNS changes have had some success.

For corporate users behind a proxy or firewall, the issue will relate to the new CRL location not being whitelisted. This connection is not proxy aware (sigh) which means you won’t be able to authenticate to enable iTunes to access the CRL – the only way is to whitelist the new URL.

So do yourself a favour and add sa.symcb.com to your firewall’s whitelist.

With sa.symcb.com whitelisted, iTunes should be able to successfully obtain a valid CRL and your iTunes connection should now succeed.

It would have been nice if Apple could have provided a little more assistance in this matter – especially for enterprise customers. But hey Hopefully this post helps some users out there. 🙂
