Can no longer access internet on Wifi, 3g works fine

For some reason, my iPhone 4 has stopped getting internet access when on wi fi. It gets on the network fine, and all other devices have no problem with this wi-fi connection (Airport Extreme). The phone gets on the web fine w/3G. I've reset everthing, and even restore the phone's software. Weird. HAve reset, restored, etc. Any Ideas?

Well, at this point I'm stumped. You've tried everything I can think of. To recap:

  • Rebooted the router
  • Reset Network Settings on the phone
  • Restored the phone (did you restore as New or restore your backup? if you restored your backup try restoring as New. After you test you can still restore the backup if you have not synced after restoring).
  • Changed channels
  • Checked that you don't have MAC filtering enabled on the router
  • Changed the DNS settings
  • Forget the network in WiFi settings

When it connects to the network, if you wait a minute or so, then open Settings/WiFi and tap on the network name what is the IP address shown?

I don't see any controls in Airport utility when interfacing with my Airport Extreme to change Mac flitering, but I am connecting to the internet using DCHP, and then configure iPv6 via link-only local. It also says I am networking with a router mode that is off (bridge mode).

I doubt this will help, but there it is. Again, one of my concerns is I don't want to screw up access to all our other household devices.

Lawrence: Fixed it. The only think I hadn't tried was to reboot my Charter Commnications modem. I powered it down, plugged it back in, and now the phone gets on the web through wi-fi just fine. Remember, no other devices had any problems getting on at all. Weird, eh? Anyway, thanks very much for all your help. I'm begining to think the key to everything is just to unplug everything, everwhere.

Bridge mode is probably fine for what you are using it for. In Bridge mode the modem is in charge of assigning IP addresses, and each device will have a different IP address assigned by the Charter modem. Charter will know how many devices are connected to their network, as each will have a unique address. So as long as your contract with them allows the number of devices you have, leave it as Bridge. In NAT (Network Address Translation) mode your entire network has only one IP address from Charter's perspective. The Airport assigns IP addresses to devices as needed.

Bridge is more efficient in use of bandwidth, as NAT adds an extra "hop" to every packet. So leave it as Bridge, but if the problem recurs reboot the modem.
