Sony Ericsson m600i - iSync

I have recently gotten my hands on the most perfect phone for me; the Sony Ericsson m600i. UMTS & triband GSM.

However, it does not sync with OS X.

I have managed to get it paired with OS X, as well as getting it recognised with iSync, but when the isync app is being installed on the phone, the phone complains that the app installation script is no longer supported (this is a UIQ3.0 phone).

Please, please help. I am replacing my ipaq 4700 with this phone, but I need the address book and the calendar.

Thank you in advance.

Todays mobile phones don't present a significant
health risk as they use very low powers, frequencies
that aren't dangerous and have directional antennas
that direct all the radiation away from you.

That's what you believe. But believe me, you're wrong. There's only one threshold: 0. There are more and more people who think about their health. And the health won't get better with more radiaton, even the science can't proof anything. They say a lot, but it's all about the money.

Also to live "without radiowaves" you will need to
get into a lead box or move to the middle of nowhere,
and even then you will be getting them beamed down at
you from satellites.

You're right, but that's no excuse for all the sick people. "You have to live with that" is no option at all. And these words won't help anyone.

hey y'all so we are at 10.4.9 and there is still no support for the new UIQ 3 phones???

I just got myself a brand new p990i thinking that it's just a nice step up from the 910... man was I wrong... not even USB mass storage works normally!!!

I have sent support requests to both Apple and SE, because I think at the end of the day as much as they like to point fingers it's an issue for both of them. And as much as we would like to corner the culprit I think it is a communication problem between the companies.

The thing I don't understand is why Apple is willing to punish their European and other Non-US customers, who are in all likeness aren't even going to have a chance to get an iPhone? From what I've seen there has not been an announcement for European availability.

It really ****** me off that things don't work the way they should, especially that I have made it a point to switch to a MAC from the all time hated Windows OS (got tired of having to wipe the system and reinstall every 6 months).

here is the reply from SE, I wonder if Apple are even going to bother to reply???

With regards to your enquiry, unfortunately Sony Ericsson does not support Apple Macs. However, Apple do have their own software called iSync which can be used to synchronise your handset with your Mac.

This is a 3rd party product not supported by Sony Ericsson, For more information and to download, please see www.apple.com/iSync

Well here goes for another calendar sync work around.

What you need:

1) Google Calendar Account - http://www.google.com
2) GooSync - http://www.goosync.com
3) SpanningSync - http://spanningsync.com

So the idea is basically that you sync your local iCal calendars with the Google Calendar account using the SpanningSync app and then you sync the phone with google using GooSync.

The upside is that now you have your calendars available online 24/7 and wherever you go. The downsides are it's a tad expensive, if you don't want to subscribe for all the services then you can only sync to one calendar, not everything works perfectly (I'm still not sure reminders work like they are supposed to) and there is also the privacy problem of having your calendar online all the time.

I've tested this with a p990i and although I had some bizzare entries appear in my calendars (I'm not sure which program fetched them), anyhow everything seems to be working. The m600 is also supported by goosync, so should work exactly the same.

Hi,

I do not know about the other phones, but the M600i plugin does not work as it does not manage to connect to the phone.

My firmware is the same as listed and it is the newest one available at this time (I was told by SE that a new firmware would be available by end of August, but not what the improvements would be)

I have tried to pressure SE to release a iSync plugin for the M600i as they have done with P990i, but their first response was the usual crap about not supporting Apple and that I should contact Apple support.
The text on the P990i plugin clearly reads:
"This package has been built by Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications. It will install a phone plugin to enable iSync support for your phone P990i."

Perhaps if someone has a Leopard beta they can confirm wether it can sync with M600i or not?

Fingers crossed..

The P990i, W950i, W958c and P1i have all had improvements made to their firmware recently which has enabled Sony Ericsson to create iSync Phone Plugins for these models. Earlier versions of the firmwares simply did not have the functionality to talk to iSync.

The M600i has not had the same improvements implemented in its firmware. So currently there still is no way to sync an M600i, regardless of what firmware you use, or version of iSync, or what hacks are made to the P990 plugin.

Sony Ericsson will have to update the M600i firmware before iSync compatibility is a possibility. I don't know whether they plan to do this or not.

My dealings with Sony Ericsson show that different departments do not know what is happening in other departments. The P990i Plugin was developed in Sweden. My SE contacts in Germany had only a vague recollection of some development work going on somewhere.

Even after Sony Ericsson published their official plugins on their own Support site, many divisions still didn't know they existed!

So, don't be put off by the old 'We don't support Apple Mac' line and just direct them to the P990i, W950i, & P1i Support pages on their own web-site!
