iPhone 4 facetime not working

For some reason Facetime in my iPhone 4 is not working. This started last week only. Everything is working except for this. iPhone 5 and iPads are working though. Any idea how I can fix this? Are you also having the same problem?

More info about the problem:

- factory reset fixes problem (with loss of data of course)

- full restore from backup ports the problem over (which we already know from other posts)

- full restore of same backup (from affected iPhone 4) to a newer iPhone 4 works

So, while it is a software issue, it affects only early releases of iPhone 4's

I replied to Holdfast earlier, but it's gone missing. I wish it was only the early 4 model, because that might lead to a software / hardware problem center to those, however, it isn't, as written on earlier pages. 4S , 5s and iPads are being hit

my 4S was hit again the other day.....no access and then, stalls during a FTime call, then disconnects Happens worldwide as well, so not a local USA problem

Sorry ~ it IS an Apple problem, whether hardware / software / lawsuit........and it SHOULD be addressed. We are not receiving the features we paid for. That must be a form of Breach of Contract.

What were the OS's involved in Holdfast4's case?

What is "special" about Holdfast4's case of cross-phone backup-restore that made it work? Only that target iphone-4 never yet had the broken-FT?

Raises spectre of alternative fix paths (have such been exhausted already)?

Backup(#1) existing iphone 4 to iTunes.

Erase, setup-as-new (verify FT works), backup(#2) to iTunes.

Erase, restore from backup#2 (verify FT still works),

Erase, restore from backup#1. Does FT now work?

Or:

Users A & B with broken-FT iphone 4's make own iTunes backups A1, B2.

Both: Erase, setup-as-new (verify FT works), Erase again.

Exchange phones (but each user keeps original sim cards).

Each user restore (on their "new" phone) their original backup.

any chance something like this could work?

No model other than the 4 is being affected by this problem. There have been plenty of posts by users who own other devices that have been having Facetime issues, but all of them who gave any detail stated that it has been a temporary problem or they were able to fix it by changing their wifi or waiting for the load on Apple's FaceTime servers to lessen.

The specific issue at hand is the instability to connect at all. Neither time nor basic settings are capable of fixing the bug.

We have determined the following:

1. Most, if not all, of the devices affected are "early" iPhone 4's.

2. While many users are on AT&T, this issue is not restricted to AT&T. It may seem that way because of the exclusivity contracts that AT&T had with Apple for the iPhone 4 in the US.

3. The bug is unrelated to non-Apple apps and app data (from the list on this page, the only app I've ever used is Google Maps, which was not mentioned on a few of the lists earlier).

For the user with a 5S who restored from his/her iPhone 4 backup that exhibited the issue: is it possible to make a backup from your 5S and attempt to restore that on your iPhone 4? I would imagine that Apple will not allow restoring from a backup created with a newer model but if it works I'd definitely be interested in hearing! In that case, you could "rent" a newer model and then fix your current phone.

On a similar note, I'd be interested if the user with two iPhone 4's could try this as well.
