iPhone 4 facetime not working

For some reason Facetime in my iPhone 4 is not working. This started last week only. Everything is working except for this. iPhone 5 and iPads are working though. Any idea how I can fix this? Are you also having the same problem?

For anyone still having this issue. I tried everything to troubleshoot it and in the end if you simply update the OS to the most recent version it will fix the problem. You can try everything else you want under the sun but if this happens to you, you need to do an update to fix it. This happened and I was on iOS6 and went to 7.1 everything was fine. Then a few days ago my facetime went out completely again. I had delayed doing the most recent update to 7.1.6 but once I did this the problem was fixed and facetime is working again. For anyone with an iphone 4 the new iOS and updates are addressing specific issues with the iphone4 and it is a current model(obviously old) but they continue to improve it's performance in their updates. I hope this helps anyone with this issue.

Is your iPhone 4 updated to IOS 7? Because if it is, then chances are, you need update it again to 7.1. I know you might think it will be just a waste or whatever, but I updated my iPhone 4 just last night and tried to facetime 10 minutes ago and it worked perfectly fine. I also experienced the same exact problem so hopefully this will help you.

I just find it stupid that I couldn't facetime until I updated my phone though..

Hello I had the same problem for about 1.5yrs. My mum and sister had newer iPhones and didn't believe me I am sure, they just thought it was a excuse not to call. Any way my iphone was starting to get useless and not fun to use at all. Even my Facebook pages were loading really slowly, I also didn't have enough phone storage space to do my apple upgrade. So I tried to move my photos to my computer for more space, but for some reason my iPhone would not register on my computer. I thought I need to either throw this in the bin or reset to factory settings. So I rest to factory settings. It deleted everything on my iphone and loaded the new apple update. I then uploaded my gmail account and iCloud. I didn't loose anything except a few photos, which weren't good quality anyway. I didn't even loose my iPhone appointments or my voicemail message. I can FaceTime again. Happy with it for the moment. Lol

My husband and I are experiencing the same problem as everyone who has posted here - FT connecting then disconnect. We both have iPhone 4S and I have a work-issued iPad, not sure what model. iPad is running IOS 5.0.1 and I can't update it because of work-related restrictions. Our iPhones are running IOS 6.1. The trouble started for us on all three devices when we moved recently. We went from a slow (3 mbps) DSL wifi connection at our apt to a much faster (20 Mbps) cable wifi connection. FT stopped working for us after the move and the change in Internet service/type. This is the one difference I see between our experience and others on here. We have not tried FT with our devices away from home yet. Have tried powering down the modem and restarting our devices. No luck. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

My FaceTime on my 4s has stopped working as well. Says it is Connecting, yet, it fails. I have not upgraded the software as I was warned not to on a 4s that it freezes everything. It drives me nuts. Most of the time it is alright because I can use my iPad (a newer one) but, when I am out and about, I often only have my iPhone. I do not want to upgrade until the newer one comes out, so freezing is with the new Update is not a happy option

This DOES NOT WORK by resetting all settings. Nor does the icloud back-up and erase blahblahblah. It is an Apple proprietary issue with facetime that can only be corrected by updating the software if you happen to get this issue(it is also sporadic between devices and any model of iphone 4,4s,5,5s, can be taken off the "facetime network" at anytime it is like your data is corrupted with your provider but this is with Apple). zelous, no offence and I don't want to say precicely that nothing else will work but why try everything else that really does not work and mess with your content???? His last line is bang on just "Update Your Software" if you have this issue, it is the only real fix to connect you with other users again, no joke, and that is your fix. Cheers

ios 7 is meant to work with iphone 4's and 4s's. the majority of people that do the update do not experience any problems. every update runs the risk of messing up, especially on older model phones, but u really need to update ur software if u want ur facetime to work. as of april 16th certificates for older software facetimes expired. this forces users to update their software to get their facetime working. if ur facetime issue didnt occur until after that date u can try my troubleshooting steps listed above. if thats around the time ur facetime stopped working then u have no choice, u HAVE to update no matter what if u want to use facetime.

Guys, I realize this is an old thread... however today, my old iPhone 4 FaceTime stopped working.

OS 7.1.2

I read all of everyones ideas, and accidentally found a solution for my phone in particular...

First the issue:

When using an iPhone 6 to call the iPhone 4 via apple id FaceTime, it would display "Connecting" indefinitely, then eventually CALL FAILED.

I tried this several times.

Then using an iPod which is using the same apple id as the iphone4, and this iPod connects flawlessly.

Solution:

Then I realized an easy fix by mistake... place a FaceTime Audio Call from the iPhone 6, to the iPhone 4, and wallah, it connected immediately.

Then do a video FaceTime connect, immediately!

My iPhone 4 is now capable of using FaceTime without any syncing or resetting, or losing app data.

I hope this works for someone else!
