Why is the Apple Mac Developer portal down, and for how long?

I cannot access the Mac Developer resources this morning.

With a company as advannced as Apple, I would expect them to be able to roll out web updates

seamlessly.

I don't like being out in the cold.

I want to download the Mavericks Beta.

nonpas - There is a free developer program membership, and the Safari program is also free. But I am not certain of the specifics of what resources are available. Quartz Composer may or may not be in the downloads for free accounts. However many things are still offline. Like registration for new accounts.

I have also noticed that once logged in I haven't needed to re-log every time as in the past. It could be an improvement was made to the portal.

Likewise although the dev centers are back, if you are a registered developer with beta access and took advantage of software update last Monday you'll notice the corresponding builds are not yet posted. I would expect a new Xcode preview and other goodies to be posted sooner or later, perhaps this upcoming Monday?

I can reach everything that is currently greenlighted - didn't even have to log in. I was already logged in...strange.

All Apple sites share the same authorization cookie. If you have but one Apple ID and login here, you are logged in everywhere. If you have two Apple IDs, use one to login here, and one to login there, then you aren't logged in here anymore.

I use the same ID there and here....I just logged out there and can still cruise around here. If I go back there, I am still logged out. This has always been the case. I stay logged out over there for days on end while staying logged in here. Being logged in here makes no difference there, so...there is no common cookie for me for the single ID scheme...

This is the reason there was no significant risk in this hack. You really don't login here or login there. When you authenticate, you authenticate with the Apple ID servers. Check the address bar on the login screen. It is the same server no matter where you login. It is that AppleID that follows you around, regardless of whether or not you are logged in or out of any particular site. Your Apple ID remains in force until you quit Safari.
