Image Capture doesn't recognize iPhone?

I'm not talking about iTunes or iPhoto so lets not discuss them unless they are somehow affecting Image Capture on my iMac from operating properly. Image capture instantly recognizes my Epson scanner when I plug it in and power it up. Using my iPhone with the apple cable to my Belkin USB device... it used to work fine but with every succeeding upgrade to the OS, it seems to work less and less. Sometimes it takes 30 minutes of connection before it finds the iPhone in Image Capture. If this is such a buggy app, why does Apple allow anything but scanners? So here's the situation:

1. Both iTunes and iPhoto instantly recognize my iPhone.

2. Image Capture works... because it recognizes my scanner instantly.

3. Image Capture maybe recognizes my iPhone being connected after 30 minutes... sometimes it refuses altogether to recognize the iPhone.

Can anyone offer a solution or explain what is going on? I prefer extracting both still pictures and video clips from the iPhone using Image Capture. You can't email movie clips from iPhoto, but once I have the clips off the phone and on my iMac via Image Capture, its easy to include them in an email.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Well guess what... it worked once. Refuses to recognize that my iPhone is connected but I can hear the charging ding every time I pull the cord from the iPhone. So this did not really help me other than once. Google this problem and it seems to happen to a lot of people.

So if someone has another work-around for this glitch, lets hear it. Really aggravating to NOT be able to pull pictures off the phone like I used to.

I believe I have found a solution.

It was after upgrading from a 5s to a 6s that it stopped working for me. I had not yet upgraded my wife's 5s (that's tonight's project), and hers was still connecting, so I could compare our settings to look for something different.

Here it is:

On your iPhone: Settings > Photo & Camera > turn on My Photo Stream ("Automatically upload new photos and send them to all of your iCloud devices when connected to Wi-Fi."

Then, unlock your iPhone, open Image Capture, and connect to the computer. Not sure how sensitive the exact order is, but that's what worked for me.

BTW: This seems totally counter-intuitive to me. I figured that I wanted to back up my photos to my iMac, and not to iCloud, so I left this 'Off.' Turning it on made the difference.

Cheers!
