Merch, you're a hero. Thank you so, so much for providing your color profiles.

Thanks. They don't actually solve the problem; they just make the display less hideous looking. I've complained to Apple numerous times about their horrible displays and I intend to continue complaining. If everyone with a yellow display would also complain to Apple maybe Apple would stop shipping these terrible displays with image retention and tinting and gradients and muras and muddy corners.

Guys thanks for sharing your stories, know I know I'm not alone and crazy, because thats the way they treated me on the Apple store, I got my macbook pro back at the end of January (2013) and right after I got it I noticed the extreme yellow tint, I asked for a repleacement and they were nice about it ( I did it over the phone) , I was very satisfied with my new macbook until at the beginning of this month, it started "trembling" on the monotones (whites, grays) , The guy on the Apple store treated me like I was crazy, said he didn't see a thing, but in the end he said they could replace the display, they took 11 days to do it and surprise surprise oh this screen is ridiculously yellow, it looks like paper that was *****d on, yes I tried calbrating it and still looks YELLOW, I'm extremely upset, I'll go tomorrow to the Apple store, and ask to compare my screen to the ones they have on display , because THAT'S the screen I wanted, and that's the screen I paid for, I can't believe Apple, so much for their "Magic Products" , how can I check with kind of screen I have now? And which one should I get on the new model? 😠😠

This is a new complaint for me. I can't imagine what it means. The whites and greys flicker or somehow aren't solid? That's a new one to add to my list of Retina MacBook Pro display problems: image retention, tinting, gradients, yellow regions, muras, and now trembling.

I've experienced yellow Samsungs and yellow LGs and I've seen clear Samsungs and clear LGs. You can't predict whether your display will be yellow or clear based on the manufacturer. I would have said that the LGs aren't yellow but I'm using a yellow LG LP154WT1-SJE1 right now. You can check your display now by typing

ioreg -lw0 | grep "EDID" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6 into the terminal if you have a dedicated graphics card and comparing the second line. If you don't have a dedicated graphics card or the command doesn't show any information on the second line people have come up with ways of inspecting the default color profile's manufacturer; you'll have to search for instructions.

Let us know how your replacement display is if you get one. You might be told that the yellow tint is normal; I've been told that 3 times. I'm on my 4th display now and it's still yellow. You can move the native white point up past 7500 K instead of 6500 K so that it looks hideously blue instead of hideously yellow.

I got the first model back when it was release in mid 2012. It was an LG display. Had no IR, everything was good. Then a bug managed to get inside the panel, I dunno how the **** it happened... but it did, and I got the panel changed for another one. Was a Samsung display with a serious yellow tint. Asked for another one and the third was another Samsung, but this time with less yellow tint. Anyway, as Apple won't stop shipping these horrible products the only thing we can do for they to understand is to stop buying this specific product untill they solve it once and for all.

Hey,

I just bought an MBP RD 15". It is a LSN154YL01-A01 and it has a yellowish tint. I used one of the Merch's profiles [Spyder4] Apple Color LCD-1 and now it is better (thank you, Merch, for providing the downloads). I have an 17" MBP as well, non-glossy, and it is so much better than this one! I am looking at them side by side... I don't understand why this technology is going backwards - we pay premium money for it. After playing with the color calibration, even with that profile I don't get it to look like my 17" one.

I checked a few laptops in the apple store and they were all LG. They didn't have the yellow tint.

You're welcome.

Has anyone noticed that when the 15" Retina MacBook Pro reboots, early in the boot process, the grey screen can look normal, but at some point, the grey turns yellowy before it gets to the login screen? You can extend this process by holding down option during boot to select a startup disk. I've noticed this on my current screen #5 that I'm on now and my previous screen #4. It may also be noticeable by trying to boot another operating system like Ubuntu. Sometimes I think that these screens are actually good but something in the operating system turns them yellow during boot.

I would be pleased if someone could just reboot their Mac and tell me if they think that it looks unyellowed at first and then turns yellow during boot. Maybe I'll also post this question in the "Burn in?" thread also.

Anyway, here's another color profile for people to try. It's calibrated to 6800 K so it's less blueish than other ones in my .zip folder. Put it in ~/Library/ColorSync/Profiles

I've got the same issue here and i thought it is my eyes. The warm white screen for 13" MBP Retina (left) and the older version MBP (right). Just bought it 3 days ago and call apple support, they took me through the reboot and safe mode process+ display calibration procedure but it just stay yellowish/warm white. They gave me the report number and i have to return it back from where i bought and valid within 14 days. By hook or crook i will insist Apple to replace it with the cool white screen because i'm in video production line and a slight change on the colour output is a big issue for me.

Yea same problem here, I noticed it because I have a blog with my photos and when comparing the rMBP 15inch to my old macbook the color was way warmer and a contrast was a bit higher. How am I supposed to edit photos if there going to look complete different on someone else monitor?!? I took it in to the apple store and they said they could replace it but I would probably have the same problem, so I didn't do it... Did your replacement solve the problem? And has anyone been able to find out how to identify the model number of the screen on these newer macbook pro retinas?? They disabled the terminal command that works on older models.

Hi guys, I'm new to this thread. I've also had this experience after a replacement of the screen of my MBPr(mid14), by the Apple store. They initially replaced the screen because the anti-glare coating was coming off. Really nice service, to replace the screen without any hassle. But after I picked it up and checked it in the store, I immediately noticed a yellow tint on my screen. After comparing it to the showmodel on the table, both me and the Genius, agreed this was not correct. They took it back in again, and now the engineer hidden behind thick walls has said that they only replaced it because Genius1 had promised so, but it's perfectly within Apple's limits. I insisted having it replaced again, because I bought a €2700+ laptop to have at least a correct screen. Screen #2 is a little better, but still has a little bit of a yellow tint over it.

Thanks Merch for the profile, but for my screen it is a bit low lighting. Color more or less okay, but not bright enough. Any suggestions? Many thanks
