My Macbook pro 13 inch keeps freezing

Over the last two days, I am facing issues with my Macbook pro 13 inch. While running Ableton, it freezes, even though the CPU is not overloaded. Post that, it abruptly crashes to the login screen, and does not respond.

I somehow got it to work and I ran Disk Utility. I verified the disk and it came out ok. I ran "Repair Disk Permissions", and after running for five minutes, it resolved some issues and I got the all ok message.

Here are some lines from the console messages from about the time that I experienced the issue today.

the latter $. Now enter the second command to rebuild your kernel cache since it is out of date. Copy and paste the bolded, and press enter:

sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions

Upon completion (when it returns to command prompt again), type "exit"

Quit terminal. Reboot your machine.

Make sure you subsequently update to latest version of Lion. Your info shows 10.7.3

Hey bro, the problem isn't solved yet. Could you help please. Here are the steps I have taken so far ->

I have updated the kernal cache

Checked for panic logs, but there aren't any

Disabled the "Put the hard drive to sleep" option in preferences

After disabling the option, there have been no freezes yet. But it is running slow. Would updating the OS help?

I think I can pinpoint the event after which the problems began. I inserted a pen drive, which could have been corrupted. Is it possible that the pen drive corrupted the system? If yes, would upgrading it solve the issue, or do I have to go for a clean install.

I do not want a clean install unless absolutely necessary. Have a lot of stuff. Please help!
