My Macbook pro 13 inch keeps freezing

Over the last two days, I am facing issues with my Macbook pro 13 inch. While running Ableton, it freezes, even though the CPU is not overloaded. Post that, it abruptly crashes to the login screen, and does not respond.

I somehow got it to work and I ran Disk Utility. I verified the disk and it came out ok. I ran "Repair Disk Permissions", and after running for five minutes, it resolved some issues and I got the all ok message.

Here are some lines from the console messages from about the time that I experienced the issue today.

Not sure. Perhaps you only ran it on your volume, and not whole disk.

The root of the problem is your disk. It is failing. Though you were able to boot again, the disk will intermittently cause these problems until it finally fails completely. Dead, no boot, data gone. You need to back up your data onto an external drive immediately, and, unfortunately, you need to get a new HD. This is a hardware related problem and no troubleshoot exists to fix a failed disk besides getting it replaced.

You can do this manually with the proper equipment by ordering a drive online (I recommend OWC or NewEgg.com), or you can have Apple do it.

One last note:

The actual disk could potentially be okay. It could simply be the SATA cable that attaches the disk to your logicboard. This is a much cheaper fix. A new cable is about 15$.

My recommendation:

1) Back up your data IMMEDIATELY.

2) Make an appointment at your local Apple store. Bring in your CPU, have them confirm the failure, and get it serviced. Make sure to ask them to check the cable itself, as this is a much cheaper fix.

Hi, sorry to keep bothering you. I just have one last question ->

Let's say, hypothetically, that the pen drive played havoc with my HD (gosh, a virus attack, hypothetically speaking!). In otehr words, in terms of hardware, my HD is just fine.

Now, if I use Time Machine to back up my data, would it back-up my affected files too? And if yes, would it simply restore them as such when I use the restore option?

To make it more clear, I need to know if I should back-up my files manually (you know, dragging and dropping everything), or should I use Time Machine (if my hypothetical situation is true)?
