Is iWorks 9 (Old Version) compatable with both Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and Lion and M. Lion?
I transfer/change my Appleworks 6 files to Pages for use in either L or ML.

iWork '09 works on Mac OS all the way from 10.4.11 to the current version.
Yes, it opens in AW and not Pages.
How do I do the update for Pages?
For Pages installed from an iWork (no s) installation disk, use Software Update, the second item in the Apple menu on your Mac. Software Update will find and the updater will update the application only if it is in the iWork '09 folder, and that folder is in the Applications folder on your Mac.
The only ways to convert a file from AppleWorks to another format are to open it in AppleWorks, then Save as... in the desired format,
OR
to open the file in the application whose native format is the one you want, then Save it from that application.

Then you didn't drag it on to the Pages icon. You can also open the AW 6 document from within Pages using File > Open
I installed iWorks (old version) from the DVD and it was installed into the Applications Folder.
I have tried the Software Update - but the only update that shows is for Safari.
I have tried the Save As - but Pages is not included in the selection menu.
I have tried the drag & drop with several AW 6 files onto the Pages icon, but the files still open in AW 6.
Find an AppleWorks document, right click (control + click), select Open In, choose Pages.
Software Update only finds updates for the Mac App Store version of Pages.
Unfortunately Apple has removed the manual Updater from their Software Support pages in what appears to be a deliberate policy to force users onto the Mac App Store version. I have downloaded and kept a copy for myself because I have long experience with Apple and expected this to happen eventually.
You can try going to an Apple Store, if you have one available and ask them if they can locate the iWork '09 4.3 updater and give you a copy on a USB drive or similar.

OK - so, this means there is no update for the DVD version?
Yes there is, just hard to get.
I'll see if I can set up an access point for the updater*, but I am busy at the moment and will soon be off to the States for a couple of months.
Can you get to an Apple Store? Apple has created the problem, make them fix it.

How essential is getting an update?
Is there anyway to convert all our AW files into Pages at the same time, that is really what I was hoping to do and why I got iWorks. If I have to right click on each individual AW file to open it in Pages, then how do
I save it and keep it as a Pages file? there is no Pages selection in the Save As drop down menue!
Anything opened in Pages is obviously then a Pages file and so when saved.
To make all AW files open automatically in Pages, you choose:
Finder > select an AW file > Get Info > Open with > browse to Pages in your Applications folder > then check the Change All button
You do need to keep up the updates to avoid other issues with Pages '09 and the latest OSX.
Yes, I see now how it's done. Although I did try it before and it did not work (not sure what was wrong)
but - I've been able to convert.
I've been searching for a link to update Pages - the search took me to Apple>downloads>productivity> with several choices for both iWorks & Pages updates. I've tried them but I end up getting pages
shoing no longer available. The update I got for Keynote said I already had a newer version.
I was just able to download & install iWorks 9.0.4 from the Apple site.
We are now up to iWork '09 9.3

The version 9.0.4 update is good enough for Snow Leopard (10.6.8). Version 9.3 is for Mountain Lion.
