App Store update tab won't show or allow updates on iPad but will on iPhone?

Our iPad mini or iPad 2 won't show the updates for the apps. It will show the number of updates available but when you select it won't open. It will open all the other tabs however, I.e. purchased, features, etc.

iPad, iOS 6.1.3

Just want to chime in that I'm having the exact problem with my iPad 2 and not my iPhone. So glad to see others are having the same issue. Seems to me it only happens on iPads, which is very strange. Hopefully there'll be a fix. I've tried quitting the appstore, rebooting my iPad, even changing the language setting (suggestion from an old thread found by googling), and nothing has worked so far.

I also have this problem on a "new" iPad. It updated apps fine a day or two ago, but despite the fact that now 15 apps show in the badge, the update tab has been blank for at least the last 16 hours. All other tabs for the app appear as usual, and the iPhone 5 updates apps normally. iOS is up-to-date on both devices.


I have tried the following troubleshooting steps:

- Cleared all apps from the iPad memory.

- Turned Wi-Fi off and then turned it back on.

- Turned Wi-Fi off entirely (LTE network).

- Turned the iPad off (red slider) and back on.

- Rebooted the iPad (with Home and Sleep buttons).

- Power-cycled both my modem and router.


I agree that it doesn't sound like a system restore will solve the issue. Too many others are also having this problem. Server seems like the likely culprit.

Add on more iPad 2 to the list... My badge count has gone up the past few days, but the updates tab still is blank.. This is what I've tried so far:

- close the App Store

- reboot the iPad

- logged off my account and tried again

- found an old article to try setting the year ahead


None of the above has helped. My iPhone 5 has not had this issue...

Let me start by saying I am someone that works in IT for a living with that said I understand the reasoning in sometimes apple techs always assuming a user problem but I can assure everyone this is not the case I own 4 iPads and two iPhones ipad gen, 1,gen2, and two gen 4, both iPhone 5's update fine neither my wife or my ipad 4 with different apple id's will update but state updates are available, but update screen blank as others have said, my guess something messed up when apple took servers down due to security problem recently in the news. I have not checked my kids ipad 1 and 2 yet but assume same results, hope this helps others from beating head against the wall. I have 0 plans on restoring my iPads this is terrible advice IMO, apple fix your servers you have a problem. This has been at least a couple days now. Oh I support enterprise customers with thousands of iPads I will be checking with some of them Monday and see what they are seeing as well.

I also have the same issue, noticed about an hour ago. But by checking each application status under PURCHASED button, I was able to update one app, namely Evernote, that showed 'update' instead of 'open' . But the second one, I am unable locate any till now. However now the update numbers has come down to 1 after the successfully updating of Evernote! Hope apple understands the issue and corrects it soon.
