App Store update tab won't show or allow updates on iPad but will on iPhone?

Our iPad mini or iPad 2 won't show the updates for the apps. It will show the number of updates available but when you select it won't open. It will open all the other tabs however, I.e. purchased, features, etc.

iPad, iOS 6.1.3

Some people are saying that they got the update to occur by syncing with their mac. When I connected my iPad3 to my Mac, it went through the sync, but there was no update. None of my apps are showing that they need updating. When I tap on the Purchased tab, none of my Apps indicate they need to be updated. Yet, my App Store Icon shows there are 4 apps that need updating.

I have tried PORs. both hard and soft.

I have tried stopping WI-FI and bluetooth. then reenabling.

I have tried re-entering the Apple Id and password.

My iPhone 5 and my wife's iphone 3GS are not affected and update normally.

What's really bad is that we haven't heard a thing from Apple regarding the problem. It would be nice for them to own up to the fact the update isn't working, just so we all know to quit fiddling with everything!

3rd gen iPad. Having the same issue and it's been happening for well over a week. After seeing how many end users are unable to see available updates (it appears it's happening to ALL iPad owners...), I'm wondering why Apple hasn't made this a priority...it's been an issue for days.

What makes this so annoying is you can see how many apps are ready with updates...just not which ones...

Yes, exactly. I've been to the Purchased tab, and none of my apps are showing anything "OPEN" or "DOWNLOAD" The ones that show download are just apps that I removed from my iPad.

When I sync with my Mac, the Apps there show the same thing. I don't even think you can "force" a re-download of an app.

Apple has to have considered this to be a real problem by now, and I'm a bit disheartened. I don't get the idea that they really care much about the problem. They just figured it's OUR problem not theirs. With this many people reporting it, I think they need to revisit their support.

I chatted the Apple support folks just now and they were outstanding. They walked me through backing up my iPad, then restoring it to factory settings. Then I restored it back to the backup that had just been made. This cleared my problem up. The support rep was online the entire way. Excellent support and my App Store icon that showed the 4 apps to be updated, came up and updated fine. Score one for the support guys!

I have loved our iPads. We have three iPad 2 devices and an iPad Mini in our household.

I'm having the same problem with *all* of these devices. My biggest problem with this isn't so much that there's a technical glitch, it's that Apple seems so carefree about problems affecting anything on their iOS platform. (I can't speak for anything else.)

How hard is it for one of the wealthiest corporations in the world (criticized for hoarding cash) to have status pages that are 24/7/365 and up-to-date? Others manage it! When iMessage goes down, you see it on The Verge, Next Web, Gizmodo, etc. But nothing where you can go straight to the source (Apple) and see the status on a "dashboard" like interface that shows where there are outages, a quick explanation, etc.

Here we are with this problem of updates not showing up ---- silence from Apple. Again.

It reeks of arrogance, entitilement, and the very old problem of simply taking their customers for granted.

Well, I'm not so sure that it's that, writeranger, though I felt that way until I actually chatted with them. They described the issue as an "emerging problem". The tech I chatted with said that he'd had a few customers chat with him about the issue, but it wasn't a widespread issue as of yet. My guess is that maybe when they see this more, they'll address it. Even from the dialogue in this thread it seems that there is a widspread experience of having the problem resolves on its own, to restarting to spontaneously having it go away. Witht that kind of manifestation, it's hard to get a handle on anything that might be technically weird.

It IS more complex than "Sometiing that Apple did", however, because when I took my iPad through the cycle of backing it up to my Mac, restoring the iPad to factory settings, then restoring the iPad back, the problem went away. You might try that and see if that doesn't solve your problem. It worked for me, at least.
