App Store update tab won't show or allow updates on iPad but will on iPhone?

Our iPad mini or iPad 2 won't show the updates for the apps. It will show the number of updates available but when you select it won't open. It will open all the other tabs however, I.e. purchased, features, etc.

iPad, iOS 6.1.3

I'm having this same issue as well. It happened a few days ago. It's happening on my iPad 2 wireless, my iPad 2 3G, and my boyfriend's iPad 2. I'm not having any issue with iPhone 4s or iPhone 5.

It says the number of updates I need, but when I go to update it in the App store it's completely blank. I'm always up to date. My software is the latest. In comparison, my boyfriend never updates his iPad. So I don't think it has anything to do with outdated software or the latest update on software.

Apple figure this out please. It drives me nuts to not be updated and have that red bubble with a number on app icon. It keeps adding up...

I have a retina, 3rd gen 64 ipad and have also had this problem for a few days now. That bubble with the number makes me crazy! No update screen either...although it did ask for a password today...then nothing. I agree that wiping a 64g is insane!

I went through my purchases and saw the update next to some apps, that seems to have worked. Granted a nightmare for those of us with hundreds of apps, but the bubble is now gone...I can breathe again.

Want my update screen back though, but I can live with a workaround for now.

I've had the exact same issue for about a week & I finally fixed it. I tried everything from closing the App Store, signing out & back in to resetting my network settings & wifi and nothing worked.

I fixed it by closing all my apps, I plugged into iTunes & synced. After I disconnected I did a reset on my ipad (held the lock & home buttons until the Apple logo appears) and when it started up I waited until the wifi reconnected & when I opened the App Store all my updates were populated.

Hope that helps someone until Apple figures it out.

I have the exact same problem. About 3 days ago, I received the update notification on the Apple App icon on all of my devices (2 iPads and 2 iPhones). The iPhones showed the apps to be updated and I did so with no problems. However, the iPads showed there were updates to be done, but when opening the Apple App the Updates tab was blank. I have tried powering the devices down, which failed to fix the problem. I did a complete restore on one of the iPads, and this failed to fix the problem also. Then I sucked it up and called Apple Support, they would not help me beyond telling me to do the 2 steps I had already done (restart and restore) because my warranty period has expired. As a last resort, I remembered the apps I updated on my iPhone, so I went into the Purchased tab and did the updates that way. I would love for this bug to be fixed!!!

I found this discussion while trying to find a fix for my iPad as well.

Lets get it straight folks.

Apple is getting ready to unveil a new operating system. They've already invited some of us to beta test parts of it. The invitations went out right after the ipad update issue started.

The fast and easy fix would have been for Apple to reset its OWN system and work out beta conflicts in house. They don't WANT to do that. It's not cost effective. They will make more money on products sold with the new OS, than they would fixing our small issue.

There is NO FIX for the app updates until Apple starts to care. As long as cash is talking, it won't be an old ipad they care about. It's the sale of new ones to come that take priority.

It may not make us happy, but it is good business cents.

Guess we just have to wait it out.

P.S. I can't get into iTunes 'purchased' area either. And those folks who don't do direct computer hook ups, but rely on wi-fi syncing are just plain screwed.

Personally I feel Apple offers such a fantastic operating system over the others that I won't switch, but that is about the only thing that would force them to make this tiny glitch a priority.
