Our iPad mini or iPad 2 won't show the updates for the apps. It will show the number of updates available but when you select it won't open. It will open all the other tabs however, I.e. purchased, features, etc.

If you do not have a Software Update option present on your iDevice, then you are trying to upgrade to iOS 5 or higher. Tap Settings > General > Software Update
If an update is available there will be an active Update button. If you are current,
then you will see a gray screen with a message saying your are up to date.
b. If you are still using iOS 4 — Updating your device to iOS 5 or later.
c. Resolving update problems
Both iPads are up-to date according to iTunes on our MacBook. Only the App Store updating of installed apps not showing or working.
Perhaps you don't have anything to update. The Software Update option in your iDevices is only used for updating iOS if you have iOS 5 or later.
If you have apps that require updating they should appear in the App Store app. You will see a number in a red badge on the upper left corner of the icon.
I am having the same issue. Happened about 3 days ago. 2 iPad2 and 1 iPad3. All are fully updated. Had to go to purchased tab to see what needed to be updated.
That is what aim seeing is the red circle with the number. But I can't see what is needing update.

Be sure you have a network connection on the device. Open App Store. Tap on the Updates option at the bottom right.
That is where the problem lies. When I do that the screen stays blank where all other options will show up. Going through the purchases tab does work but a long way around the problem.

Hi, I have the same problem with ipads only. My iPhone 5 updates just fine, but my ipad 2 and ipad mini both show that updates are available in the badges but the update page is blank. I sent an email to Apple but I just got a silly form email back. I'm assuming it's a problem with their update servers and I hope it gets fixed at their end...soon. Take care.
Try this:
Rebooting your iDevice
Hold down the Sleep (On-Off) and Home buttons totether for about 10-15 seconds or until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears - then let go of the buttons. The device should begin to start up.
If this doesn't do the trick, then you probably have to restore iOS. Be sure you make a backup first so you don't loose your data, apps, etc. You want to do this in iTunes with your device connected to the computer and selected in iTunes.

Hi, Since the problem occured on both ipads at the same time, I have a feeling that it will get resolved at the server level. I'd really hate to have to restore 2 ipads. The first thing I tried was rebooting to no avail. Thanks anyway.
I agree your two plus my two. Has to be at their end. These 4 iPads are not related and restore is something I am not looking to do either. I will call support I guess.
Hi, maybe a call to Apple would help more then an email but from past experience with support calls, I've found Apple to be a little condescending, assuming we know nothing. Don't mean to bragg but I'm pretty geeky and it sure seems like a server error to me. Whether Apple is aware of the problem or not is another matter. Good luck and take care.
Seeing the same thing on two different iPads and two different networks. Rebooting doesn't help. iPhones update just fine. In one case, I was able to update an app via the "Purchased" section.
Add another user… says I have 21 updates, but going to the update tab on App Store on iPad 3 shows blank. No button to update all like I've done hundreds of times in the past.
