Logic Pro X will not delete any of my control surfaces.

I am trying to delete my control surfaces that Logic automatically scanned. They won't delete at all. Any ideas? Thanks

Logic Pro X, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

First, make sure you unplug all external hardware controllers. Also, power down (and not just put to sleep) your iPad if you have used any app in the past to remote control Logic Pro... or you have already installed and used the new Logic Pro X remote control App.

Now start Logic and delete control surfaces.

Quit Logic. (Not just close Logic.. but quit it)

Restart Logic and go back and delete CS's again if there are any still present.

Quit Logic and restart once more...

Check CS surfaces to make sure they are all gone.

If they are then... (and if not, repeat the previous few steps until they have all gone. It can take a few attempts I have found under certain circumstances..)

Quit Logic and then connect any hardware, one at a time and start Logic. to set them up.

However, If you are trying to use the iPad remote control app.. don't connect any external Midi controller hardware to begin with but instead start Logic Pro X and then start the LPX remote control app on your iPad and get it connected following the instructions on the iPad.

Once the LPX Remote Control app is working.... and please test before doing anything else... Then and only then reconnect any external Midi controllers... and set them up.

Dear 'ArtofSound,' -- Thanks for your posts! One of your suggestions solved my problem, I found and deleted the preference file you suggested, .. com.apple.logic.pro.cs.

The next time I open Logic my simple iControl (controller surface) was there, all by itself, and recognized. Gads knows what was wrong but the error message was like 'The Midi port doesn't exists,'

And efforts to fix it resulted in more and more iControl icons appears, all also not working. It started to feel like Mickey Mouse in the Sorcerer's Apprentice.

Thanks again!

Andy,

In that case... simply unplug and turn off every form of external CS device... including iPads and iPhones.. (Not sleep but power down!)

Quit Logic and then delete Logic's CS preference file... com.apple.logic.pro.cs

....which is found in the User Library

<system drive>/Users/<User name>/Library/Preferences (Note: this is the User Library and not the System Library!)

Leaving all Midi controllers, iPads/iPhones and any other possible CS's unplugged and turned off.. Now restart Logic Pro X and the CS file will be rebuilt.

Now check your CS prefs in LPX to ensure they are all gone. If not follow my instructions in my first post here but typically they will be gone unless you haven't unplugged and turned off all your possible CS's...

You should have the prefs file on your system. You are probably looking in the wrong library... Check your path is exactly as shown with the items inside < and> replaced with your Hard drive's name and your User name..

<system drive>/Users/<User name>/Library/Preferences (Note: this is the User Library and not the System Library!)

If you cannot find it manually... in finder.. hold down the option key and left click on GO in the menu bar.. and select Library from there.. That will then show your User Library in finder.. then navigate to the Preferences folder and look for the file named com.apple.logic.pro.cs

...and no, spotlight will not show it unless you tell spotlight to show system files..
