Jul 27, 2013 9:17 PM in response to Kellyxxby sberman,The following comes from the article linked under it:
Error 2, 4 (or -4), 6, 1000, 9006
- Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
- There may be third-party software that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting a TcpWindowSize entry into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause these errors. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet size modification for assistance or follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
- Verify that access to ports 80 and 443 are allowed on your network.
- Verify that communication to albert.apple.com or phobos.apple.com is not blocked by a firewall, or other Internet security setting.
- Discard the .ipsw file, open iTunes and attempt to download the update again. See the steps underAdvanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations.
- Restore your device while connected to a different network.
- Restore using a different computer.

Jul 1, 2015 2:14 AM in response to sbermanby ChrisBedford,Yeah I call BS on this reply
I started this download (8.4) on my phone this morning (selected "Download Only") and it got about half way before I had to go out. So I unplugged the phone and left. When I got back it showed *no errors* but it was still about halfway and the download time estimate had doubled from about 2 hours remaining to 4 hours. This is on a Win 7 PC by the way.
Plugged in again, and nothing changed. But then iTunes prompted to update *again* so I went through the same process, accepting the T&Cs and so on, and then watched as it tried again. Error: couldn't contact the server. But the original download status was still there.
Went into the progress bar window and clicked to "pause all" then once it had paused I clicked to "restart all". After a while it started downloading - *MUCH, MUCH* slower than before (estimated time to complete 23 hours+) but it made progress. Until a few tens of MB, then the above error.
So, I doubt very much it has anything to do with security software (especially since I have had the same AV since I first downloaded IOS updates, probably since the first 8.x)

Sep 23, 2016 11:10 AM in response to Kellyxxby dwight236,Have you tried a different cord and/or USB port?
-
Sep 23, 2016 11:27 AM in response to dwight236by ChrisBedford,Oh come on Dwight!
1. Neither the cable nor USB port has anything to do with downloading software using iTunes, which connects from the computer to Apple's servers and stores the binary on the computer, *then* pushes it down to the mobile device
2. I doubt I have *ever* had an IOS update download first time, and rarely on the second attempt. Usually on the third it will work (without changing cord or USB port). You're not going to tell me this is not an Apple Server issue, when I continue to be able to download anything I like from any other site, with very few exceptions.

Sep 23, 2016 1:14 PM in response to ChrisBedfordby dwight236,Just so you know it plays a significant part in downloading. I encounter this issue with customers on a daily basis. A large percent of thiserror has to do with the computer itself or the cord attached throw this unknown error in iTunes. Most cases we advise changing the cord or USB port. Or trying a different computer altogether. Cause it is not iTunes nor iOS device based.

Sep 24, 2016 3:54 PM in response to dwight236by Aykimo,I was getting this download error and decided to try dwight236's suggestion. I moved my USB cable from the back of the Mac to the keyboard port and the download completed. Odd, but I'll take it!

Sep 25, 2016 2:10 AM in response to dwight236by ChrisBedford,Coincidence.
Try the download again without changing anything and you have just as good a chance that it will work. I'll stake anything you like that changing cables/USB ports doesn't *always* work - because it has nothing to do with the error.

Sep 25, 2016 2:13 AM in response to ChrisBedfordby ChrisBedford,P.S. if it is related to USB hardware manufactured by Apple, running software created by Apple, this would indicate vagaries in something that is some way affect *nothing else* whatsoever. Seems a tad unlikely.
This is Science, people, not magic.
