Norton Disk Doctor on an OS X platform

I've heard often on here that Norton causes problems with OS X, damaging the directory.

I have also experienced this problem first hand, as my directory is currently damaged.

However here's the deal. So far I can't find any documented proof (Be it from an accredited magazine, or whatever) that Disk Doctor is damaging to Macs running OS X. Does anyone know if there is any?

Why do I need this? Simple, my boss won't believe me unless I have documented proof from a reliable source. She won't take forum posts to be valid unless the person posting is an Apple Employee or something to this degree. So convincing her to stop using Norton and use another disk utility is quite difficult.

So if anyone out there has a link to a sight that I can print valid proof it'd be much appreciated. I'm doing a search myself but finding it is difficult.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Hi cgArtist!

Ask your boss why she would want to use a product, that is no longer being supported, even by the company that developed it?

And has also stopped any and all new development?

Thanks, while these will help in my argument I still believe my boss won't believe me when I tell her that norton actually damaged my system, as was the conclusion brought up on this forum.

The main problem with dealing with my boss is that, well, she believes she knows more about computers than I do. (which is not the case.) So do you know of any documents that state that the program damages directories or is the "Discontinued development" the best I can get?

Hi cgArtist,

Norton Utilities and Disk Doctor were discontinued more than a year ago (for some very good reasons!). It caused much more trouble than it solved.

I've heard of Cocktail and tried to download the version for Jaguar, both from the official site and from Versiontracker. However when I do this I seem to only get a page full of random characters and symbols. Unless the versions for Panther or Tiger work with Jaguar as well I believe I'm out of luck here.

Thanks for the info though.
