Support Code:300 The printer does not respond

In the last 2 weeks I'm suddenly getting a frequent error message on my MacBook Pro when I try to print to my Canon MX860 printer which I connect to over my WiFi network. This combination has worked flawlessly for several years, but now it suddenly keeps coming up with this "Support Code: 300" error.

I have deleted the printer several times and reinstalled. It will work for 12 hours or less and then I start getting the Support Code: 300 error again.

My notebook PC, sitting right beside my MacBook Pro, continues to print to this same printer with no issue.

Any suggestions?

This Canon MX922 is definitely a bad boy/girl printer. Reminds me of Eloise - the delightful child who lives at the Penthouse in the Plaza Hotel who is Very, Very Good - Unless She Is Horrid.

That's this printer, exactly. The Dreaded Code 300 = has been driving me nutso now for over 3 years. MOST of us - truly most - do not HAVE a device with a CONVENIENT WPS BUTTON handily accessible at the same time we are pressing the appropriate printer button. Grrrrr!! We do not print in a Canon Lab where all is in reach and in sight simultaneously.

So...Solution:

I seriously doubt there is any ONE, infallible solution to this major Canon tech oversight in design...but the one that DOES work most often for me has been simply: Turn OFF The Wifi - then turn it back on - and reconnect to the same wifi option you typically do use successfully.

That's it.

In al these years Canon has never explained why their printer has a serious recall-malfunction related to Code 300 - nor why they do not or cannot correct this with a driver update.

Woe is us. I'm just for sure never forgetting, tho, NEVER to buy another Canon product as a result. My tech friends all advise Brother Printers who have pragmatic, capable, and thoughtful, customer-oriented developers and product designers, btw.

I couldn't agree more with sherrytx's comment. I've had a Canon MX870 for many years now. I'm running the latest OS X and the latest Canon drivers but I still regularly get this problem. I can't always fix it in the same way. It happened yesterday so I turned the printer off overnight and this morning it worked again. A few hours later and good old error 300 is back. Luckily turning the printer off and on again worked this time, however next time I might have to delete the printer and add it again; or re-boot everything; or throw it all out of the window and use a hammer and chisel and a piece of rock.

I recently replaced an ISP supplied router with an Apple Airport Extreme. My wireless network has been much more stable, but the error 300 from my Canon printer has continued so it's definitely something to do with the drivers.

This is such an old printer but it keeps chugging along even though I'm willing it to brake. There will come a time when I need to replace it and will NOT be buying another Canon. It's interesting that when you search for code 300, it only seems to be Canon printers that come up in the search results.

Thanks for the tip about Brother printers, sherrytx. Will be looking at those and Epson when the time comes (actually any make apart from Canon).

I'm going to reply to my own comment.

I've bought an Epson EcoTank 4550 (reduced by £100 because of a special promotion - all I had to do was trade in my Canon MX 870). Comes with a 3 year warranty too. Surprise, surprise, the printer works every time I want to send anything to it, plus it works from my iPhone and iPad. Is quite a novelty being able to print without seeing error 300 every other time and have to waste several minutes trying one of the many different solutions to the problem.

I suggest anyone with an older Canon just throws it out of the nearest window and buys something else.

Hi sherrytx

I feel your pain. I was in the exact same boat up until last weekend.

Your username suggests to me that you're in the States? I'm in the UK, and the trade in deal I found was with Currys/PC World. It expired on the 8 June which was why I leapt into action so soon after posting my initial comment last week.

I was pretty surprised about the offer, especially as the deal was for any printer, even if it didn't work?! However it was only for some Epson printers. I got £100 off (which is around $150) an EcoTank 4550. It's not a perfect printer, by any means, but it has low running costs and works EVERY SINGLE TIME I WANT TO PRINT SOMETHING. I mean EVERY time. It's a real novelty actually being able to print stuff out and not have to cross my fingers at the same time knowing that it probably won't work.

If anyone is interested in the EcoTank, I'll be posting a review to my YouTube channel some time in the next week or so. https://www.youtube.com/c/andyclaytonuk

Over the last couple years I've had this error code 300 problem with a Canon MX700 connected to my LAN. Normally turning wifi off and on again on my Macbook air alleviated the problem temporarily, but If I wanted to print a multipage document it was challenging.

I've tried deleting and setting up the printer, rebooting everything, but nothing solved it. Except connecting to the printer directly over USB. I've not connected the printer over USB to my Airport Extreme and was able to print a few pages okay. I hope this helps someone else.
