iTunes Chart - Buying song Multiple Times?

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if you could tell me something...

if I bought the same itunes song multiple times would this raise its chart position? The reason I'm asking is that I believe some artists do this and just wanted to know how it worked...

I am assuming...Joe bloggs has one apple ID and buys the same song 25 times would this be 25 sales and therefore increase his chart position? Payment could be via Credit card or gift card..

p.s. if this isn't how it works how is it done then? as its very obvious in some charts people are buying their own songs...

Apple keeps a record of every purchase associated with every AppleID and account. So, once purchased, any additional downloads with the same AppleID do not count as an additional purchase. You can re-download any of your purchased content (except audiobooks) as many times as you wish to. But they can only be purchased with that same AppleID once.

How is it done then? Multiple accounts with multiple credit cards? as it is very obvious that people are buying their own songs to gain chart positions. For example I've seen a song from a new artist thats not even out yet (pre-order) and its gone straight to number 2?

Apple has not detailed how they calculate any of those chart positions. This is to try to keep people from gaming the ratings just as you have expressed concern over. So no one here can answer your question.
