Having trouble hooking up Chromecast

Hi -

I just got a Chromecast and the set up seemed to be going well until the home screen (on my TV) said:

"Chromecast connected to MyHomeNetwork, but can't access the Internet"

When I checked under the WiFi icon in the menu bar Chromecast was selected but MyHomeNetwork was de-selected.

I did this a few times - first getting online with MyHomeNetwork. Every time - during the CCast set up - it switches to Chromecast under WiFi.

It is supposed to work this way?

Is there something wrong with my Airport Express (latest version)? Should I change a setting on it?

When I checked the Airport Utility it shows when I'm connected and when I'm not. Under "Other WiFi Devices" there is nothing listed - "No new wifi devices detected".

Im using a MBPro 2011, running OS X 10.7.5.

Suggestions please.

I was having the same issue with one of my tablets when trying to setup the Chromecast, and also finding it once I set up the Chromecase with another device. After searching for issues with Chromecase and Airport routers I found a link of known issues with Chromecast and different routers (Link provided below) For me this was the issue and once down grading from the latest firmware on the airport router I was able to see the Chromecast on the tablet that I was not able to before with newest version of firmware. Down grading the firmware was quite easy I just went into the routers utility found the option to upload firmware selected 7.6.1 from the drop down (as recommended) and after the restart of the router the device that was not able to see/setup the Chromecast was able to see the Chromecast.

Link to the site where I found this recommendation.

Can this be explained in more simplistic terms? I clicked on your link but have absolutely no idea what it all means. I just purchased chromecast and it is not connecting to my Time Capsule. Is there a way you could walk me through it in a way that someone who has very little knowledge of computers would understand? Thanks.

Same here - just removed the blank spaces and redid the Chromecast steps and it worked like a charm! I went ahead and removed the spaces in the guest and 5GHz also, although I don't think it was necessary since Chromecast uses the 2.4GHz connection. Only hassle was re-establishing wireless connection to the airport extreme from all of my phones and other devices!! I'm on OSX Mavericks 10.9.1 and Airport Extreme 7.7.2 firmware.

This exact same fix worked for me (the one mentioned by Bill). I am not excited about using Teredo tunnels though: it is an IPv6 hack, IMO, but it did fix the issue. I have a slighly updated system version set than Bill.

OS X 10.9.4

AirPort Utility v 6.3.2

AirPort Extreme v 7.7.3

But, going into my Base Station and selecting the Network tab, Network Options, an "Allow Teredo Tunnels" fixed the problem. Why native IPv6 was not just fine is beyond me, but I am not a network expert, I only know enough to cause myself problems. Oh, and I use no spaces in my network names but I do have a "-" hyphen in my wireless network name. On a side note, I did have to try the setup three times and the hyphen in my Chromecast device name seemed to be causing the problem with my initial failed attempts to setup my Chromecast...but it all works now.

Earlier my Chromecast was working perfectly, but suddenly it stopped working. I had not done anything, so very frustrating. Re-running the setup procedure for the Chromecast stopped at the point where it would not establish connection to my Airport Extreme router. Tried this several times, no luck.

Solution: In Airport Utility, under IPv6 options, I changed "IPv6 Mode" from "Native" to "Tunnel". After this the Chromecast setup worked just fine. Not sure exactly what this change does though...

I have an Airport Extreme from 2014, firmware 7.7.3, Guest Network enabled, spaces in the network names, 5 GHz enabled.
