iMessage acting weird?

My friend just got an iPhone 5 on T-Mobile, but she can send iMessages to me, but I can't send iMessages to her. Both devices have iMessage activated with checkmarks on both the phone number and apple ID email address. We both have tried resetting the devices and turning off/on iMessage. Is there a way to fix this problem?

iPhone 5, iOS 6.1.4

Any particular reason you didn't mention this before?

"not from my phone" - does that mean from all locations, cellular data network and WiFi (and all WiFi networks?
