Omnisphere and Logic Pro CPU Usage question

I'm not a big soft synth user (Prefer my hardware) but my head has been turned with Omnisphere since posting on here. As i'm selling a keyboard i would quite like to give it a try, but couldn't see any demos.

Could someone running around the specs of an i5 2.5ghz comment on how cpu-intensive this little monster is? I see on their website that 2.4ghz min is recommended. I don't mind using it as a hardware synth (i.e. only run one instance and bounce to audio) but would rather be mindful about how cpu-intensive it actually is?

I really like the organic sounds it offers, choirs and scapes etc.

Any opinions welcomed.

Hi ski,

Omni is one heck of a synth.. I have used it almost since the first day it was released and it is probably the most used synth in my arsenal.. It is a beast and a very flexible and versatile one...

It can be a bit of a CPU hog but that depends on which patches I am using... nd how many..as each patch can have various levels of complexity so some patches use more or less CPU... than others.

However, if you find you are running out of horsepower using Omni then you can for example, simply Bounce in Place some of the Omni tracks to unload and free up that used CPU..and then add more Omni tracks... or whatever else you need.

Note that their min specs are for a min of a 2.4Ghz single core... An i5 can easily handle Omni.. I used to use Omni a great deal with a older Dual Core 3.06ghz 2008 iMac without issue... and produce projects with 10 or 12 seperate tracks of Omni stuff.. before needing to BiP.. so on an i5.. you should easily be good to go!

Hope this helps a bit..
