block texts on messages mountain lion

So I love the messages app on my MacBook but I have recently become a victim of sexual harassment from a guy who I used to know and because he used to be a friendly, nice, and intelligent human, he has my cell number. This unfortunately means, because he is using iMessanger to send obscene messages to me, that they also show up on my laptop. I have blocked him on my iPhone through my cell carrier but I have yet to find a way to block just his number on my laptop. Ideas? Anything is welcome at this point, thank you!

Dear everyone in this thread: We know we can just stop using Messages on OSX, but we want Apple to fix this.

Please stop posting that you can block it on the phone or quit using Messages on the Mac, that is not a real solution.

Blocking a contact in iMessage should prevent them from contacting you through the iMessage service, not prevent you from being able to use a convenient tool on your expensive computer.

Hi,

Unfortunately, there is no blocking feature in imessage for mac (it will probably be added in 10.9.2, but it is a bit far away).

How to block iMessages on the Mac

  1. Launch the Messages app on your Mac.
  2. In the menu bar, click on Messages in the top menu and click on Preferences.
  3. With your iMessage account selected, click on the Blocked tab.
  4. Click on the + sign and then add the contact you'd like to block from your Contacts.
  5. That's it, all methods of contact for that person will be blocked.

I found this on a website, and I was able to block a person who has been annoying me for while too. I will also include the link to the website, in case you need any further help.

To be clear.

This Thread is in Mountain Lion (OS 10.8.x) and that will allow the use of Messages 7.x.x

The Blocking feature is not Added until Messages 8 build 2 in Mavericks (OS X 10.9.2).

Realistically it does not apply to this Thread - partly as the Start Date of the Thread is over a year ago in 2013
