Macbook Air SSD failure?

I've had my MBA for just under a year, and the SSD failed today. I saw the dreaded white screen. I took it into an Apple store, and they are having to replace the SSD. Unfortunately, they didn't have the one I need in stock. So, it will be a few days. I'll be lost without my MBA. LOL

Has anyone else had issues with SSD failure on MBA? I hope this is not a common issue. Luckily, it is still under warrants. The part was about $800.

Don't want to Rain On your parade but it sound like the service provider you sent/took your Mac to might of lost it in the shuffle.

You should go Collect it from them and wait for an Answer from Apple.

But is isn't really clear if you took it to an Apple store or Apple Authorized service center. If that Firmware update stated your Mac has one of the affected SSDs and it is a Mid 2012 model it should be replace No Questions Asked.

add mine to the list.

Mid 2013 MacBook Air

512GB SSD

bought build-to-order from Apple store August 17th.

SSD failed during Yosemite upgrade - disk no longer mounts consistently. Can do

repair permissions and disk verify. However when trying to repair or install OS disk fails to mount.

Taking to apple today. Will show this thread.

wyred same happened to me.

With my Macbook Air

258GB SSD

I am disappointed with Apple customer service in Norway. I can say it is worst service I have ever had in my life. It took two weeks to get back my Mac and even I called to Apple twice, I got no chance to borrow any pc for those two weeks. Now, after SSD replacement I am having lot of failure, can not use Skype, also my desktop screen changes to original every time I am logging of, can not connect Icloud mail on the Dock and etc. Called again to Apple asked for help, they tried to help online, but nothing works 😟 Only solution is to deliver it again, but it is not free...

Another SSD failure here. Macbook air 2013 64GB. First I got the ? at login and then I tried the recovery disk which I found is downloaded and not stored locally. After that got downloaded I tried to do something with it with Disk Utility but it only sees the recovery partition. Macintosh HD is nowhere and I can't erase or do anything to it. I'm getting a new one from OWC.

Hi All,

You can add another one .. this time it is 256GB one. Macbook Air 5,2 Mid 2012.

Called Tech Support today, they checked S/N and said that MBA it is out of warranty and not under replacement programme (only 64 and 128)! even thou the issue is exactly the same as on the smaller drives. http://www.apple.com/ie/support/macbookair-flashdrive/

Checked all possibilities including SMC / PRAM reset, recovery disk, internet recovery(Lion), boot from USB(Recovery Disk, Mavericks, Yosemite).Nothing!

SSD is recognised under eSATA/SATA in System Information in Recovery Mode once every 10 reboots and it always fails during the OSX installation. After reboot - no SSD detected..back to square one.

I've never had issues with Macs of iPhones and when I did it was resolved like it should be....not any more!

Apple changed in the past few years and for me it is another "nothing we can do" company. Well Done!

I have my MBA almost two years and actually I dont use at all, only for feel time in internet and some small files. My SSD was damage because of OS X Yosemite upgrade.... it turn off my MBA and never return, I lost all my files.

Nobody explain me what happend, they said it's rare, and I found that Apple had a bad stock of SSD from June 2012 and June 2013, I bought in Miami in August...

How can I have the explanation that my SSD is not a quality problem??? Nobody could explain to me, it's terrible, I spend more $$$ to have a MBA and now I am in Brasil, and trying to figure out how can I do, because the prices here to change the SSD is almost the same price of a new computer.

Apple is driving me crazy in these days and I am already 1 month without computer...

Is anyone have a tip to tell me how can I complain on apple website and have a reply?

Juliana.

I have a MacBook Air from late 2012, the ssd died today. I was on vacation an saved my photos from the trip on it, I usually had time capsule backups At home. It breaks my heart that I lost those pictures. The Mac just stops at the flashing file with a question mark, when I go in recovery to check disk, the disk is not even showing up. This laptop was treated with a lot of care, nu bumps, spills or falls. No, I do not have apple care but finding out there is a recall after a problem happened is just discouraging. I've been noticing issues with the apple products lately, my one year old iMac has dust under the lcd because of poor design, the iPhone 6 is a sluggish and problematic device. And now my Air.

I have a genius bar appointment for tomorrow, I wil find out of they will replace my drive or is they can recover anything which I doubt. I will buy a ssd enclosure from OWA and try to recover my data. As for the future of this Air... Not sure if it has one. Will not believe the stories about Mac reliability and durability. Nothing more than stories.

Hi,

Here is another SSD failure story. My MBA purchased in Aug 2013 encountered problem while loading. After going through the forum about SSD failures I took my MBA to iCare where it was confirmed SSD failure. The quote for replacement of SSD is almost the cost of new MBA.(here in Bangalore cost of repair is INR 50K which is approx $ 800 !!). I called customer service and after giving serial number they told me that only those MBA's which are sold between June 2012 to June 2013 are eligible for free replacement. mine is purchased in August 2013.This is my first Macbook and was really happy with the product before the tragedy struck. I'm clueless how to go forward with this case and present my case for exception.

Any suggestions on this issue is highly appreciated.

I've bought MacBook air in January, 2015 from Beijing apple store. Yesterday unfortunately the 256GB SSD drive of my MacBook was crashed. I just browsing Facebook and abruptly it was shut down, and when I tried to turn on again I didn't found any operating system inside. My MacBook air has dual boot system, so I was pretty sure that the SSD drive is cashed, today I went to iservice center and theyy Confirmed me that SSD drive is crashed, what's now, I still have 5 Months warranty, but the Apple service center was in Bangladesh, and they told me it's needed 1 month to be repaired. It was ******* time killing period for me, I'm a traveller and a busy businessman, so I need my MacBook ASAP, but they need one month, I already lost all valuable data in SSD, this is very sad and embarrassing for me. I'll go to China in the next month and I'll change the SSD from China, hope the apple service center of China won't take 30 Days.

This is my experience about MacBook air 2014 modelmodel.
